it's odd that animation started out so amazing through the late 30's and 40's then reduced to cheap imitations later

While this cartoon does bring a lot of good childhood memories. I must say, in real life we should fear if a man like Bunyan existed. Take all the whimsy out and you got a giant with an Axe that can make storms with the clap of the hand.

I want to over analyze this for a bit. He was 25 ft tall at 18, now to make an extra big step from Wisconsin to Montana (roughly 600 miles) assuming that your stride is 3/5 of your height, Paul Bunyan would have to be 1000 miles tall. With 5 blows of his axe he cleared 10 miles, that would mean the bit of his axe would be 2 miles across, very large eh? No this would be 1/500 of Paul's height making it a tooth pick. Now if Paul is 1000 miles tall, and your average tree lets say is 100 ft, the tree is roughly 1/50000 the height of Paul, so a tree would be to Paul as a skin cell is to a human. I could keep going but I feel that's sufficient, lol.

I hope someone will post the Mel-O-Toons cartoon that was of a little boy who sang towards a mountain just to hear his echo. The ech stopped, and he went searching for it, and asks a fish in a pond if it has seen his echo--among other animals--and the fish laughs, answering "eh- heh,eh-heh, eh-heh eh-heh...that's to hard of a question for me,Sparky.." all the while gurggling like under water. That was one of the funniest cartoons of my childhood, and I want to see it again. Anyone remember it?

That's what I love. The only way ol' Bunyan could have been more American would be to create a McDonald's mountain with Crisco streams instead of an old rock candy mountain.

In the 1950s the natural environment was only waiting to be cleared in deference to human development. But then, there weren't so many people. And now we don't have so much natural environment.

this is rather horrid, the music is just rip offs of American folk songs, and the art is offal. This is really just RCA's response to Disney's Paul Bunyan. The redeeming part of this cartoon for me is the fact Paul built the big rock candy mountains, he mush have been a big hobo! (If you don't get this look up song Rock Candy Mountain)
