Great review. Honestly changed my opinion on this pedal from when I tried this pedal. The explanation of it doing a melotron effect instead of expecting a simulated sound really opened my eyes to what it’s doing. 👍

Been craving this pedal for so long. The fact that there were no decent bass reviews about it made me a bit hesitant from buying it. I also heard that you need to "get your notes right" so your bass won't sound off tune. Is that correct? I truly appreciate your time in doing this review. I'm sure that You've really helped all bass players planning on buying the mel9 pedal, have a better idea about what to expect. I know your review helped me so much. Thanks a million brother.

Rafi Costantine Antar thank you for the kind words. I appreciate the feedback. The pedal does track very well, I wouldn’t worry about the notes to much. However the E string is to low for it to track well, Very similar to an octabass pedal. It is a great addition to a pedalboard.

@@SteveTheBassGuy Speaking of tracking the low E.... I'm not a bass player but have a bit of a challenge because I will have to record bass on my demos. I tune my guitar to a low G, and even though I bought a fanned fret bass made for low tunighs (Dingwall) I'm having trouble getting the right setup to play a whole octave below the guitar. I was considering tuning my bass up to G to match the guitar, and then using some sort of octave of pitch shifting pedal to get some fuzz bass an octave below that. Do you know anything that tracks down to a low E on a standard tuned bass? Maybe even down to drop C, but at that point I'll probably be doing octave up or something. Thanks.

Christian Noir , Hi Christian. The dilemma you’re in is one that many bass players come across. Trying to get an effect that can track down to low E or beyond is difficult if not impossible to find in my searches. My advice is to check out the sub and up focusing on the sub part and add distortion you may achieve the effect you are looking for without having to drop tune the bass. I would also try some short scale basses with these effects you may find that a more pleasing sound to what you are looking to do. Good luck and keep me updated on what you are doing I would love to hear about it. Cheers.

I think you need a compressor between the bass and the Mel9. Many of the notes you hit are far louder than others. That would wreak havoc on the FOH system, sending the sub amps into clipping and possibly blowing speakers. Plus, it would drive the sound tech nuts.

Good point for a live performance, for a demo only one pedal at a time.

Really good appraisal of this pedal Steve - definitely opened my eyes as to what it is capable of. I initially thought that it was more for electric guitar but there's definitely a lot more to explore. Great review as always. I'm subscribed and looking forward to seeing more stuff from you soon. God bless you mate. 😊

Not a fan of the choirs or saxophone sounds, but the others were pretty good! I'd like to have the Mel9 & C9 to play around with. They're just too pricey for me to justify buying just for grins & giggles. Maybe one day, who knows? 😏

I was wondering if it would work pretty well on the E string if you play at the E string fron the 12th fret and going up from there. Or if its going to get a sound not as good as expected, due to the gauge of the string.

Vasco Gutiérrez my personal experience with this pedal is that it doesn’t track well on a heavier string. Such as the E.

@@SteveTheBassGuy Great idea! Using the E string idk, for mistake or sth like that would it break or damage the pedal in some way? Bcs if the only problem is not getting the right sound on the last string, I think is still an amazing sounding bass!

Hi, there was definitely some things that I gleaned off of this however. And I can't help but foresee you taking this personal, but it's directed at the music community at large. We don't all have to do reviews and demos of the latest pedals. Especially if the company didn't send it to you and, basically if you spent money on a pedal it is a good chance that you're not qualified to do a demo. There are some really insightful and revealing demos on pedals that are game changers. Especially dark glass company and, you should really check out bass world. That'll kind of give us all a baseline, get it? Or should I say that's the bar by which we should all consider if we are eligible to put a video out, because we risk misinforming the community. Anyway sorry buddy I did say I did pick up some pointers from your video.

I do appreciate your reply but if you don’t see value, kind of in the same way you seem to be implying that a demo of a device is unnecessary unless it is given to you. You can alway move along , not every opinion needs to be voiced sometimes it just comes off as rude sorry but true.
