My main gripe with Melatonin was the sound cues or sometimes feels like lack their of, as i've only played the Rhythm Heaven series before this game and tried going into it with an open mind but the first area was not a great first impression. The call and respond mini game (shopping) was alright, I like that the hard versions are like remixed versions of the original songs, but by the time I got to the "dream about followers" minigame it just hit me hard how this start was unenjoyable and that with my only source of comparison being RH I was shocked that the remix required getting 2 stars in each level which while firstly only reminding me of shitty mobile games, also infuriated me because of how unintuitive the "dream of followers" minigame felt and nearly made me refuse to go further into the game. The first remix wasn't that enjoyable either as it imo sounded like garbage and having to slog through it just made me really feel uninvested in what was to come but to try giving it a good try I kept going and the second area was fun to me in mini games, with better sound cues to me, then the remix was enjoyable and sounded fine. and I've only gotten to the dream about time minigame but that was honestly the most RH feeling minigame so far and I loved it just had janky timing it felt like to get used to was all (in a similar vain to some might have issues with monkey watch first time playing Fever) but seeing this comment and the few replies did make me think about this and I do agree Melatonin feels like a game meant to be watched and listened to rather than actually played. It feels like it has bad sound cues and despite having 'accessibility' options to give people a visual cue on any level I feel like if your rhythm game has to rely on visual cues you failed at making a rhythm game. so for me atleast when compared to RH I haven't been having the most enjoyable time playing Melatonin but I wouldn't make the generalization of Rhythm Games being more fun to watch than play. (cause I assume games like Rock band, and guitar hero count? if so they're fun to play, and some rhythm games like taiko seems fun to play but I never have played)

I love it, got it a few days ago and am trying for 3 stars on all the levels. It definitely takes some work though, the practice mode is very helpful if you're willing to run through it a few times rather than just once. I feel like a few of the biggest offenders (that I've gotten up to so far) is the money, work and rocket ones. Audio cues in money and work are too similar for me to differentiate and they became more of a memory game. The rocket one on the other hand I think is more the music not helping with the cues. I remember getting very frustrated trying to keep time in my head because the music wasn't helping. For my first rhythm game, I loved it 7/10

Okay, good I'm not the only one who find that annoying and untrue to the Rhythm Heaven series lol I absolutely love the aesthetic of the game and the genre, but imo, these games should be something a blind person can play with visual cues built into the music. @hopefulcynic7735

I was intrigued and bought this game, but it didn't meet my expectations for a rhythm game. My major gripe has to be levels that either focus on visual cues or audio cues. It's nice for a rhythm game to focus only on one as your reaction time will differ greatly. Especially during Megamixes where you're forced to switch between audio and visual cues. My other gripe is some levels have an audio cue that gets masked by the music or audio cues not being distinct enough from each other requiring you to look at the screen. This game would potentially be better if it focused on the auditory cues and dropped visual cues as the levels that require only auditory cues seem to be better polished and timed better.
@accelplaysgamesbad6382
Жыл бұрын
Yeah I have kind of mixed feelings about the audio and visual cues. I don't really have a preference for one over the other in my rhythm games, and in isolation I think the levels are okay, but the way the levels are organized makes for some really confusing transitions in the remixes (chapter 4 is the worst in this regard i think). I think I personally like more subtle audio cues in rhythm games (I really don't like the new audio cues they added to 4-3N and 3-1N in Rhythm Doctor because I find it has the reverse problem of sticking out and being kind of jarring against the music). Melatonin does kind of toe the line on being too subtle though, especially in some of the directional stages.

Pretty cool, seems to have the same satisfying gameplay with the cues feeling part of the song, and the music is nice. Just not very into the visuals, specifically the colour palette, the pastel isn't bad, but everything being about the same bright pink and purple feels samey really fast. They definitely don't feel quite as clear as Rhythm Heaven's but you could definitely perfect these games with nothing but audio cues I believe (except that coin one, maybe it's cuz I'm not wearing headphones but there's seemingly nothing to indicate the difference between coins on the left and coins on the right), the visual aspect definitely helps a lot though which is where this game differs from rhyhthm heaven. A lot of the games in RH have visuals that actually serve to distract more than help, which makes the player rely a lot more on the audio cues and as such the audio cues need to be really clear so as to not seem unfair.

The coin one, the stress one, and the final space shooting one i dont think can be done completely blind (basically the multi button games). All the games have a 4 beat rhythm to them so it'll be 1. .(you'll be just jumping off one phone to the other) 2(jumped off and in the air). .3(you're starting to come down and the phone you land on will vibrate and screen turns blue). .4 (lands on the phone). .1 (jump off). This will be a bit longer on the hard mode. The 3 phone jump will also vibrate the 3 phones with blue screen 1 beat before you have to jump on them. Then it's a faster movement in the same beat time beat 1 it cues you in then beat 2 you jump twice fast while in beat 3 then on the 4th beat you landed on the 3rd phone before jumping off on beat 1.

My main gripe is that there doesn’t seem to be enough energy put into the effort (of course, it is supposed to be lofi) Rhythm heaven features songs and minigames of a lot of varieties. This game features one.

idk something about this 'style' of calm lofi music is really off-putting(causes me more anxiety if im being honest)... maybe it's the over reliance on everyday object as sounds or the fact that th beat 9s just ... idk im not a fan of the usic in this game, visuals a beautiful though

It's supposed to be 1 beat after you hear the phone vibrate, but the visuals are super disorienting during that segment. It's just not a good minigame idk

I bought the game and I love it! It's like a more challenging version of Rhythm Heaven while still having its own identity! That said, it REALLY needs to make its audio cues louder. Sometimes your input blocks it out, meaning you can't just lower the music. That said, I love how it has options like lowering music to make sound effects louder and how it tells when you're early, perfect, or late!

A lot of the cues in this game kinda suck. And the charting just isn't satisfying for some games. Worst gotta be video games, money, anxiety, and exercise.
