As a man I understand the pain. But at the same time I was asked the same question without the context of they asked women and I said the bear. Its simple the bear is a bear. A man isn't nearly as predictable. They can use any number of weapons or tools. Plus the bear is going to naturally be in the woods. I don't know why the other guy is in the woods and what nefarious deeds they are planing. If I didn’t live in the woods literally my house is in the woods I would never go into the woods. So the simple fact they are there brings alarm. And when I mentioned tools earlier that includes cell phones the bear isn't going to pull out a phone and call reinforcements. A man could and also I wasn't assuming it was a male. I was assuming man just ment human. Don't trust women in the woods either. Splitting off from the group with her is how you are the first to be written off in a horror movie. At the end of the day humans are far mor dangerous then any animal and far more unpredictable unless you trust the other person I would never go to a secluded area with them its just bring smart.

@IndomitableAde nope a bear would just follow your scent. Track you down. Then break into your home to eat you. Then the bear and its cubs would spend 1 hour slowly eating you alive. Just like that poor Russian woman who was able to text her mom one last time as a family of bears slowly ate her alive. A hungry bear is just as determined to kill as a home. The 2 have different motivations for killing, but a bear would put in more effort to do so.

A woman had pulled up to start the trail but seemed hesitant. He saw her and walked over to lean against his car instead so she would have more space to go to the trail without having to walk close to him. When I came back with a cool frog to show him and went running up to him shouting “Grandpa look what I found!” She seemed a lot more relaxed. But even if that time it hadn’t helped enough, at least he recognized she was nervous and gave her more space to try to let her relax more. I suppose seeing a little girl running up to that bear of a man helped her feel calmer. I remember in the car I asked why she was nervous and he just said, “There’s a lot of bad men out there. It’s why I chose to be a cop. But there’s also bad cops, so telling her I’m an off duty cop also wouldn’t necessarily make her feel better. Correct, but it's not all bears, and not all men. The reasons themselves do nothing to inform the percentage probabilities, which is what is relevant. For example, if you had an animal which had a 99% rate of attacking when it encountered humans, but never tortured them, and if you had men who have a 1/16000 rate of attacking, but SOMETIMES tortured, you wouldn't choose the animal ONLY because it can't torture. The numbers would clearly matter, just as they do in the actual question with the real relevant probabilities. So, sure a human CAN torture you and hurt you in ways that a bear won't, but that's meaningless without considering the PERCENTAGE CHANCE that it would happen. And then weighing that against the percentage chance of something bad happening in the other scenario. It's all numbers, math, and probability.

And most women obviously do not genuinely believe this, otherwise we would not see the vast majority of women still very happily and actively making efforts to engage with men by maintaining family relationships, seeking male friends and romantic partners and seeking out places and activities that are full of men. You would not do that if you actually believed the average man was such a threat. You PERCIEVE them as a large threat because you do not know anything about them. But to project from that that they actually are a threat, that is highly misguided. And most women know that. I see more women choosing to live amongst men than to live amongst bears and I see more women speak about their love for men than their love for bears. If bears were such a greater alternative, this would not be the case. Obviously men are capable of horrible things and I cannot imagine what it must be like to live as a woman and to never know fully which men is going to be a threat and which not. As a man, I can't relate because even though men are victims of violence at higher rates and victims of sexual assault of not sunstantially lower rates, we have been conditioned by our society to not feel a whole lot of fear and to be stoic. Which sometimes proves to be most beneficial. Sometimes not. But when your mindset and your feelings make you see an excessive amount of danger everywhere or where they decrease your perception of danger so much that you become careless - it becomes a problem. If you scream at a man, and you think the average man's reaction is to cover your mouth that is unhinged. A man that wants to harm you, yes. He will do that. But go on the street and scream at some random men walking by. See how many cover your mouth. And see how swiftly other men will come and ask you what's wrong and what that man did to you, because they think he actually threatened you and they seek to protect you from him.

The reasons for men attacking women are so superficial too. "She said no when I asked her out" CRY ABOUT IT Don't be a little piss baby and throw a temper tantrum because you didn't get your way A bear would attack me because I'm either bothering the bear or because the bear is hungry. You can also survive brown bear attacks by laying face down, spreading your legs so it can't flip you over, and interlocking your hands behind your head. Black bears can be spooked away with yelling and flailing your arms out to look bigger.

You could also come to the conclusion that this just shows how much we tend to stereotype things, the main argument I’ve seen from women is “if some men are bad and have hurt me can’t I be weary of all men?” Basically because there’s a chance then id avoid it. You can literally take that idea and apply it to real life and see the disasters it caused. During the blm movements some people had that same idea… because some cops were bad (fact) all cops shouldn’t be trusted (false) and things like defund the police etc stemmed from that You can also apply it with the wall being built in America trumps logic is the same, because some immigrants do illegal stuff we should deport a bunch of people and bar them out from ever entering. (You could probably see how this effects people) While the fear of men is understandable generalizing it and saying bear >> man isn’t, all this argument has really done is harm because all it’s caused is hate for men from women and hate to women from men. Do you not see how this shit has literally turned into Boys Vs Girls gender wars 😭 the argument is stupid. I have met both in the woods. 1) My daughter and I were hikingvin the smokey mountains and I went in the brush to pee. She (age 11) says “Mom- I think there’s a bear what do I do?” I say “stand very still- I’ll come get you in a sec.” So I finish and walk over to her in the almost dry creekbed area. “Where is it?” She points up on the embankment “I think that’s a bear.” It was 12 feet away from her. I say, “ok well we are gonna walk slowly away from here. If it chases- we play dead. That’s it.” So we start walking and the bear moves- he’s definitely heard us but he settles down in the grasses for what I expect will be a nice nap. 2) I was swimming in a very remote creek where I had never encountered another human. I got out and right then saw a man who while his face was turned away from me his body was aimed at me. So I casually threw on my shorts, grabbed my stuff and started going thru the woods to the parking area. I walked then jogged then ran. I jammed my keys into my car door and into the ignition and just then he bursts from the woods. Apparently he had been running almost parallel to me thru the woods not on the path but was trying to catch up before The lot. His face and body reaction was like “Oh damn! She got away!” Yeah. Then I realized I still hadn’t locked the door (older car not autolocks but I was pulling away as fast as I could to drive as fast as I could to the main highway. But he did not follow me in his car. I will take a dozen bears. These freaks hunt women. I’m aware he saw my car when he pulled up and thought he got lucky that it was just one woman. Gimmee a baker’s dozen. I don’t care. Many men are awful human beings. You think they are nice because that’s all they show you. But my Dad was a psychopath. My CPTSD is like a refined warning system. I lived with evil for 17 years. That childhood home is still the most dangerous place I will ever be. Even if a psychopath gets me now I stand a good chance of escape but a child cannot.

Not a single man is worthy of my trust or respect . It’s almost funny. They’re the logical ones right? So why is it that we’re told not to trust men , we tell children not to trust men , we are told not to do certain things that will lead to dangerous situations…and yet we’re wrong for not ignoring all of that and agreeing that, yeh, a strange man we don’t know probably isn’t safe to be alone with in the woods. We are told not to be alone with men and if something happens, it’s our fault . It makes perfect sense to choose the bear cuz not doing this goes against everything we’ve been taught in order to be safe . Also “not all men” but everytime you talk about anything else it’s “all men” . Logical gender my ass . Nothing they are saying is logical at all. The logical thing to do is to not trust a stranger you just met in the woods. You don’t know them. Someone who hurts women looks like everyone else. What? Are we supposed to just blindly trust them and let ourselves be open to something bad just to spare their feelings? That’s stupid . They’re being stupid .

What these men or just anyone who argues abt this don’t understand is that if your in the woods with a bear and you stay a safe distance and just do nothing, the bear will not attack you. Whereas a man will come up to you and do things completely unprovoked for no reason, just because you’re there. For example if your in a tent and a bear is outside trying to get in, it’s likely because you have food in there or around your camp sight not because they wanna get to you. Whereas if a man is trying to break into your tent, it’s because they want to get to you and likely WANT to cause harm to you. The intention is the biggest thing and it’s honestly what makes being around people in general much scarier than being around an animal like a bear

Men themselves changed their opinion to Bear when the scenario meant their significant other or relative. They are aware of how shitty men are, and instead of calling out other men, choose to argue with women. The bar is on the floor 🙄

Yeah that was weird...I thought they would be more diplomatic. They're shooting at their own leg. I still think most men are decent but those guys online are definitely the men women (and men) would choose a bear over.

This exactly. Plus, I've seen many men claim they could beat a bear. So why are they suddenly offended that women choose bears as safer odds over them?

Nobody is saying they wouldn’t be scared if they were in the woods with a bear. We’re saying we’d be *more* scared if we were in the woods with a man.

Then they’d be stupid as 99.99% of men will not harm you 100% of bears will

When I first was presented the question my dumbass thought it meant would you choose a man or a bear as a forest companion and my first thought was “companion bear? Fuck yeah I’m choosing a companion bear!”

I think that would be awesome!! Until I did something that annoyed my companion and then I would probably be in trouble…but until that point, yes! Bear companion all the way! 😍😍❤️

As a man i agree, i was sexually harrased twice by a guy and only once by a woman. And i am hetero and have never looked for the attention of another man so that makes it extra sus. There is a deep seated problem in the culture we men get brought up in. I deeply dislike the way some women in th ervice sector get treated.

I think this is what we should be getting out of this hypothetical. Obviously not all men are bad, most are decent and normal in my experience, but there are enough of those individuals to the point it's causing this reaction. We should try to figure out how to make the world safer for women and men.

I don’t think most women understand how the “culture men are brought up in” damages and affects them. I think this needs to be part of the conversation, but there are so many societal checks and balances as well as general distrust of men by women that it is nearly impossible.

@@krazydreamer no we know. It's just men themselves have to fix the problem. Like they have to do the work of unpacking the bs and decentering the attention of women.

@@krazydreamer I'd counter with the men that this skit talks about are the ones unwilling to even consider it a conversation/issue. And they're likely the ones holding most forms of power (business owners, government officials, the super wealthy), thus, making it nearly impossible to solve.

@@krazydreamer When you are being abused by a man, or graped and unalived, I doubt you are gonna be thinking of how society and culture has led him to this point.... No more excuses. No justifications. Being a man means taking responsibility for your actions.

they legally have to kill bears that are too friendly to humans *in case* they attack (180 in recorded history) meanwhile i personally know a girl who was SUED for “causing emotional distress” by leaving her rapist and telling like five people about it.
