You are absolutely correct about how menopause changes the way you view your relationships and its not just your marriage. Almost all of my close relationships went through a thorough evaluation and some of them survived and others did not. This video should be mandatory viewing for any couple going through menopause. Boy you really hit the nail on the head for my 26 year marriage. In the past 10 months both my husband and I lost our fathers within 3 months of each other. It blew our marriage wide open. I told him it was over, saw an attorney, had all the divorce paperwork filled out. Somehow we made it through and are doing quite well. Grief and menopause are a powerful force for a woman.

Sharon, I feel you in that my husband's mom whom we helped take care of passed away and then my dad (whom I felt guilt about for moving to a different state to help my new hubby raise his boys) passed 7 months later. We have his ex who (tries to) cause us a lot of turmoil even though she is with someone else and she left him (maybe she was menopausal?) and 4 adult kids between us, my perimenopause, his andro, a job loss, new job, life events, and now looking to move back so i can spend time with my mama since she is aging and to help with our grandbaby. Life is never boring and I tell you, God being that third and central strand in our braided 3 strand marriage is what helps us hold it all together. We are both Christians and sadly both left God out a lot at the end of our previous long-term marriages, but God has brought us through and or bond is unbelievably close. We were very good friends in high school and friendship carries you it seems when other stuff rocks the boat. Glad you and your hubby worked it out.

Man here. Interesting. Being educated on menopause. I think this particular video focuses on just part of the problem. Mood swings and anger and various symptoms make life hell for some women. They don’t just divorce. They change/lose jobs, they fight with friends. It’s just a rough time. Men educated about this can learn to understand somewhat, not over-react, and be supportive. And also encourage women to get treatment!

Is there any hope? What are the stages? Is this a temporary situation and if so how long this will last? Some real stories. etc. Many marriages or relationships are broken because of this and people are confused not knowing what is really going on or what to do! We really need more guidance and practical information to be able to handle and overcome the situation and if not at least have a better understanding or better prepared for this. Thank you.

Barbie, you say to the men whose wives are going through menopause: "You're a big boy; act like one. Be patient and supportive rather than pouty and selfish." Why didn't you also tell the menopausal women to be patient and supportive of their husbands, that their husbands are going through a terribly difficult time facing the potential loss of their long-term marriage? We love to mock men for not understanding women but women do not understand men either, and instead of women being mocked for that lack of understanding, men are further mocked just for who they are. A woman whose husband left her because of a mid-life crisis would never be told to be patient with her husband and try to understand what he's going through. It's really a very unfair double standard.

My God this makes so much sense! Just when perimenopause started for me we had adopted 2 special needs kids, one of my other kids nearly died in a traumatic near drowning accident, stressful CPS visits because of the accident. I knew peri menopause was starting then, but never put all the hormonal changes into the perspective. Especially the oxytocin. The trauma responses, anxiety, depression, rages, lack of bonding and connection with the new kids, lack of patience with people. It makes so much more sense in hindsight. But I'm still on the precipice of filing for divorce. I'm tired, crushed and worn out from giving and giving for so many years. He just comes home from work and plays video games for hours every night and barely helps with things around the house. I'm too tired to care anymore.

It is hard to make a good partner choice the first time especially given how men are raised, and their raging sexual drives, and how women are raised as placating, "SWEET" and Sexy things. What woman at 23 knows herself? How many men want a strong woman who does not daily reinforce her man's primitive cultural need to be dominant and the strong one? In 50 years of working with my clients dreams, I see the dreams crying out to "PAY Attention! " ---choose wisely. Most women don't understand the metaphors in a dream and ignore the proffered insights. Then I see them 20 years later having nightmares of being in prison, or being mis-treated, or lonely, or bored to tears. The signs were there from the beginning in the dreams, then a decade later, she keeps hearing the voice of discontent while awake, then, the divorce in her 40s.

The vast majority of men have been busting their asses for their family, cop a bunch of abuse along the way and work equally as hard to keep peace. Holy shit the numbers of times i said nothing while being a verbal punching bag just to keep the peace is unbelievable. But as the kids are moving out, as you said in video said - Men are slowing down. They've put family above their own health, they take on more dangerous jobs, they usually are the providers and the protectors, they face depression and suicide at much higher rates. They lose muscle mass making everything harder so much harder, sleep apnea is likely to kick in around this time to. Why is he a man baby? Because he's slowing down, he's tired and in need of some rest. Its a time where we look to reconnect with our wives and move onto the next stage. But instead of understanding how much hormones are giving us a different perspective that should be over come, discuss and worked through for the next phase you just celebrate by ripping the hearts out of your men without even a second thought - because it make 'you' feel good at the time? As long as you hold it against your parents, Blaming them for your pain, you will remain an angry adolescent-- even to the day you die. They can not undo any of it. Only you can study them as a journalist might so you understand their immaturities, lack of this or that, and realize you now have a choice to live your own life--moving on. Take a look at books on the Fischer-Hoffman Process. Find a practitioner (Psychologist most likely) OR do it yourself by writing from a journalist's POV (not yours) a biography of each one. Surprises in store, and liberation for you. VERY powerful, surprising method to get you to look at your parents who had formed personalities before you came into the world. You will understand do much more, you will stop trying to get them to act (retroactively) in aways they are and were incompetent to do.

This video makes me very sad not only for women and men in general but for you in particular Menopause Taylor and the great love story that died. I was so hoping that you and George would be together forever after reading your book, Honey I’m Home. What could possibly have gone so terribly wrong that that great love story faded and could not be saved? George sounded like your soul mate, your inspiration, your friend and confident. When vows are exchanged for better or for worse, it is supposed to mean that both individuals commit to just that; the intention to embrace the good times as well as to endure the bad times and to commit to work through each. Too many couples simply give up and feel that it’s not worth the effort to make things better and so they choose to just go their separate ways rather than to work together to rebuild their relationship and to remember the love that brought them together in the first place.

love this video Dr.! When I left him 2 years ago I was wondering what was wrong with me that I did love him, I was ok with my marriage but I just wanted to be alone!!! free!!! and the first months I was kind of scared because after 14 years of marriage i felt kinda lost..but NOW I realized I just wanted to be independent again! thank you for confirming my suspicions :) and clarifying my thoughts!! :)

The “need for independence” made my mom such a raging lunatic in her late 40s that my dad didn’t want anything to do with her anymore. He had his issues, but mom didn’t help the situation. Now she’s 76, 30 years divorced, never remarried. Only dated one guy 23 years ago and ran him off, too. The feminism runs strong with mom. Now she’s old and lonely and resents her friends and sisters who have managed to keep their marriages together. She even snipes at me, now (I’ve been happily married 23 years). I told myself my menopause wouldn’t be like my mom’s. It isn’t, thank god. My husband is amazing and I tell him this every day.

OMG this video was SO interesting and made a lot of sense. BTW I just watched your yoga video and was blown away. You are awe inspiring. I know you have arthritis and can't understand how in the world you are able to do those postures. I do yoga every day (only been practicing for two years,) and my wrists always seem to remind me that I have arthritis. I think it would be great if you could do a special video related to yoga ie how you were introduced to it, how many years you've been practicing, how often you do it, do you go to yoga classes, etc.
@MenopauseTaylor
6 жыл бұрын
Well, thank you so much for this. I will be doing all sorts of videos on yoga as well as other exercises that are best for menopause. As for my ability to do the yoga postures, I'm just determined. I started doing yoga because of my arthritis. That was 2001. I was told that I would be an invalid in a wheelchair. So, I decided I would not let that happen. So far, it's working. I started out by going to classes twice a week. I moved to a different country every year, so the yoga that was available to me changed yearly. Then, in 2013, I couldn't find yoga that suited my needs, andI started doing it on my own. Now, I practice yoga for about 20 minutes every day ... all by myself. What you saw in the video is a typical example of what I'll do on any given day, I have no "routine," never know what I'll strung together, and have never done the same sequence or the same postures in the same sequence twice. I just do whatever my body needs each day.

@MenopauseTaylor
4 жыл бұрын
You can't replace oxytocin. But, loss of oxytocin does not cause loss of joy. That's due to loss of estrogen. Loss of oxytocin causes you to lose your compulsion to put yourself last all the time, say "yes" to everything, and let everyone treat you like a doormat. If you want me to help you personally with any of this, please schedule a consultation with me at MenopauseTaylor.ME.

For some years now I've notice women wanting divorce at menopause years. I said this is menopause. It's funny because I'm 52 and I started menopause at 40. I had never been married or had children but always wanted to. I notice a feeling of "wokeness" that im tired of people "walking over me". Well at around 42yrs I met my husband ❤. He is my blessing from Jesus. He is very supportive of my journey through menopause. Thank God I've been the opposite of wanting to be "independent". But I understand if women go through it because I notice that's what they say....they want their independence. I pray this will stop.
