Eminem wrote this song after he and Kim went through their first divorce. He was mad that he couldn't see his daughter and that she was seeing another man who had a son (those are the two people that he killed in the song). Apparently he wrote this song after watching a rom com alone and was just super pissed about the events that were going on in his life. This is one of the songs that he most regrets making.

Masterpiece is 100% correct. When you write a story in song form between 2 people, using the 2 parts of a conversation together not even missing a step whilst still rhyming in flow, and invoking raw intense emotion to the point of jaw dropping disbelief in what you're hearing, sound effects that make you visualise everything happening in your mind, creating a track that can still make you feel this horror 20 years on, them be the ingredients to an amazing track, but anybody can make a fancy meal with the right ingredients, it takes culinary/lyrical genius to put them together to form the masterpiece. And that's Em, simple as that.
@Artimao

This is not a song, it's a performance. His intention was to show everyone how angry and disturbed he was, like an actor in a stage play. There's no denying you can picture everything he's saying in your head. I don't LIKE hearing this, but I'm always impressed about how much emotion he shows in it
@SR1Records
3 жыл бұрын
I don't think "His intention was to show everyone how angry and disturbed he was". Eminem doesn't write songs for us (just as no true artist does). This song was his way of coping or even just getting this shit out of his head! There's no way what so ever that Em thought "I'm gonna write a song to show people how pissed i am at her!" It's just that he was pissed and he wrote this song! We *get* to hear it. It wasn't written for us.
@oggouz

this song is one of the most theatric, masterfully artistic rap songs ever created. the fact that it makes you so uneasy that you need to laugh it out is amazing. But it is not made to make you feel comfy. He s trying to paint his emotions and the images of horror and despair in your head. Every time I listen to it, tears come to my eyes, definately not laughing. But its also one of my favourite songs of all time. Art, music and emotion arent supposed to be always positive, and most amazing artworks describe something really sad and horrible. EDIT: spelling

In a previous reaction you guys came to the conclusion that some of eminem's songs are therapeutic for him. This song is no different. Do fans listen to this? Yes, for the same reason you'd watch a movie. Like you guys said on your 'stan' reaction. You can picture the exact scenes as he's talking, no need for visual media. It's an expression of his emotions. This is the prime example of a song which you are not supposed to relate to, but to experience. You don't listen to metal track about war or demons or whatnot because you relate to it, it's an experience. In the case of most metal songs the experiences work uplifting, unlike this song, which works horrifying, ultimately making it equivalent to a horror film

Oh my god you finally did it! :D I don't know for how long I've been requesting you to react to Kim, and now you finally did it. I had tears laughing while watching you guys react to this. :'D This reaction was exactly what I was hoping for, I love people reacting to this song. Now you have to, HAVE TO react to '97 Bonnie & Clyde That is a sequel to this song, although it came before it. '97 Bonnie & Clyde was in the Slim Shady LP, his 1st album. And Kim was in the Marshall Mathers LP. So in a way Kim is a prequel to '97 Bonnie & Clyde. That sound in the end of Kim (Kim's lifeless body being dragged and then shoved inside the trunk of his car), 97 Bonnie & Clyde starts with that sound. This shows the story-telling prowess of Eminem, in a way I guess. :D Now about the song and the story : "Kim" was recorded by Eminem when he and Kim got divorced the 1st time. She was seeing some other guy at that time and he had a son (Em killed both of them in this song and then killed Kim to make it look like a double homicide and a suicide). Eminem was so angry at that time, and apparently according to some stories he was drunk/high at the time of recording this song. He went to his studio alone one night and recorded this. He has always said that Rap is an outlet for him, for his emotions. So it was better that he took it all out in the form of a song rather than actually doing all that nasty stuff in real life (which is a very common scenario that we see, dudes killing their girl and guy they find her cheating with, etc.). This song is meant to make you feel uncomfortable, and you can tell that it is good when it is doing what it is supposed to do. It is a great song in terms of pure Raw emotion and the picture that Eminem paints through his story telling, you can actually feel and imagine each and everything happening while listening to this song. There are other stories about this song too, like one time Eminem invited Kim to one of his concerts, and she was promised that this song won't be performed. But he performed this song anyway, in front of her and a whole crowd. He also had a blow up doll labelled Kim on the stage and threw it in the crowd too. Imagine this, damn. What a scene it must've been for her. They've been through lawsuits and everything. So you're right about this song being controversial. The song, '97 Bonnie & Clyde is a sequel to this song but actually it came out before Kim. There's a story about that song too, Eminem once told Kim that he's taking Hailie out to the market, but instead he took her to the studio and recorded '97 Bonnie & Clyde with her. She was just a baby at that time. You can actually hear her baby sounds in that song. :D That is actually Hailie. :D Then you can also react to "Bad Husband" which shows how much he has grown as a person since then and it is kind of an apology to Kim. Damn! This comment was long. :D But totally worth it. :D

Even Eminem doesn't think it is one of his finest works and regrets releasing it. Your reaction was great and very true, it was exactly what I was hoping it would be. Never feel bad for reacting the way you do sir, those are your real thoughts and that is what a reactor is supposed to give. You have to understand the song as a piece of art, it's like a movie. The song purposely conveys discomfort by telling you an obviously made-up story, it does not have to be real, he has only taken the names of close people. It is not Marshall confessing something to you, it is an Eminem song. And as you say at the end, it may not be rap, it is the expression of an artist, who feels things as normal as anger, envy or desire for revenge, but takes all of that and transforms it into an incredible song. It is what artists do. Music is art, don't forget it.

Its not meant to be taking literally, but is a description of what you feel in the moment someone you love or a friend really close to you do something that really hurts you. And most have had that feeling during their life, an idea of hurting someone thats close to one because you are mad in the moment, although you doesnt really mean it, and it only last for a brief moment. This song capture this brief moment of thought, and makes a song out of it. He paints himself as the villain. And the main reason why its so unpleasant to listen to, is that you subconsciente know that you have had the same thought at some time in life, but without really meaning or wanting to do it, so you try to distance yourself from it and reject it. Which makes it a true masterpiece in its own freaky way. What a genius.

Amongst most Eminem fans I know, this song is held more as a time capsule of Eminem's progression. This song was not a joke. This was a song he made to vent and was supposedly the first track recorded for the album. He's said before that if he didn't have this outlet he doesn't know what might have happened. This song was also used in court when Kim and Eminem were litigating against each other. Also the words "four" and "boy" are censored because this song was actually recorded before the Columbine Massacre (1998, Columbine being 1999). A leaked version of the uncensored version leaked before the album released and was met with a lot of dislike (likely obviously). This song is classified as Horrorcore. This song is a prequel to 97' Bonnie and Clyde.

I know, you probably have to listen to this song multiple times, to realize it, but this song is a goddamn Masterpiece! The whole Atmosphere, the Emotions put into this Track, the way he's done it, plus the way he's imitating Kim's voice, the Background noises, and the story itself... Eminem said about this, that its basically some kind of sick Lovesong, cause it shows how much he loved Kim, and how he was feeling when she left him and started a new Relationship with a guy who already had a Son(thats where the part with the 4 year old boy comes from) And the Song is a Prequel to ”97 Bonnie and Clyde" off his first album the Slim Shady Lp, maybe you could react to that aswell, cause it continues the Story of "Kim"

Don‘t know in you reacted to it already, but the song „Bonnie & Clyde“ from the Slim Shady LP is the direct sequel to „Kim“, although the release was before „Kim“. It starts with the dragging-sounds and the sound of the closing trunklid.

He's describing his roller coaster of emotions. He is letting his anger out through his music. Which I feel is how most of music is done by.

It is em just proving to the critics that he can and will put out anything he wants to. He is proving a point.

He wrote this song when they were broken up I think in 1997 . He just released it in 2000's MMLP. And he wrote it as a love song "that's how much I care about you and how hurt I will be if you leave me" he said to her. React to bad husband it's his apology to Kim.

In a way this is like Darkness - a violent story told in a song, a movie without picture. You can see everything in your mind though. I love this song because it really stops me every time, I can feel it in my guts.

Honestly this is a very good song. A masterpiece. Visualizing and emphasizing the human emotions of love, hate, and rage. Although the scenario is very intense, you understand where Marshall is coming from. This song is pure rage and heartache embodied.
