I agree completely. Keaton had it the hardest, and really laid the groundwork down for all of the other actors to follow in his characterization. A very underrated actor. As of recently, though, his take on Batman has really been appreciated by fans like never before. Almost like a renaissance-type thing. Classic acting that's being re-watched and admired. And if you ask me, it's about time.

Tim Burton returning for one more Bat-flick would be AMAZING. And "The Dark Knight Returns" would be perfect inspiration, once more. Michael Keaton (the best Batman by far) is 60 years old now. Who better than he to portray a retired Batman. Just imagine how everyone would feel if Danny Elfman's amazing score entered our ears in a darkened theater one more time! Joker-cameo,Catwoman-closure... The biggest obstacle would be convincing Warner Bros. and Burton to do it.

Arkham City and the animated cartoons came after Keaton's portrayal, so to compare him to that is unfair. It's not like they had those at their disposal to reference when casting the first movie. None of that had happened yet. For the comics of the time and the media related to Batman, Keaton was perfect for when his movies were released. Plus, no one else had come before him in playing Batman except Adam West, so he had it the hardest in trying to make it original to the time. Very underrated.

Burton didn't write the screenplay bro, he only directed it. I don't think you are considering the fact that more important than looking the part it's "acting" and "selling" it. I bought Keaton's Batman because there was intense uniqueness to it aesthetically speaking. His expression and voice were terrific behind the cowl. That's far more than I can say for Bale, West, Kilmer or Clooney. btw it wasn't that West didn't "need" body armor.lol His version of Batman wore a cloth outfit, simple.

I am sure I will enjoy "The Batman" coming soon, I have enjoyed Nolan's trilogy, but Burton's films had that decadent gloom flavor; they were dark fairy tales with undeniable charm. I miss charm in new films. That, for example, is the main difference between the original and new Blade Runner as well. Thanks for posting: Keaton is a fantastic guest as always.

You never see Keaton's body in the movies though. They don't really give you the chance to assume he has a bad physique. Burton has stated multiple times that he knows there were bigger guys who fit the build better but Keaton pulled Batman off better as a character for his film style. A Kevin Conroy Batman wouldn't have fit as well in a Burton film. However I love the comics, and I for one hope one day we see a Conroy esque b-man on screen with the Arkham City look.

Keaton's Batman comes form the idea that he ISN'T that super buff comic book Batman. He NEEDS something to intimidate the criminals...hence the bat motif. If he as some big bulking muscled brute why would be a bat? He could just go out and kick peoples asses in a dress.

Bruce Wayne, no I agree with you. But I do like his Batman. Really, Keaton's a very underrated actor and like I said, to be put in a position to do a new version at that time that no one else had done yet besides Adam West, he didn't too too shabby. Not perfect, sure, but I'm sure they could have done worse. lol. in my opinion, I still believe the best Batman films have yet to be be made yet. The new ones are great. But I think a perfect comic adaptation, flawlessly, is waiting to happen.

I remember seeing him hanging upside down but i don't remember the lighting being good enough to see his body clearly I don't think it was retarded scene, that's actually something that was common at the time for work out(he was resting in the scene)....watch American Gigolo or American Psycho(which takes place in the 80s) it has nothing to do with him trying to look like a bat. It really isn't a bad scene at all. It's by no means a "face plam" moment, its just you being a snob.lol

You are basing all your arguments off of the simple fact that Burton's movies aren't similar to the comics. It doesn't matter, they are well made movies everything else aside. If you had spent time with a camera filming you would understand how gorgeous every single shot in one of his movies is. Almost like a sculpture or a painting. I'm a big comic book geek but if the movie is made well I honestly can let people's misinterpretations slide. Schumaker's Bane...now that's bad.

Batman has always been a guy with an incredible physique with the exception of Adam West who I'd go as far as saying had a better built body than Keaton. West didn't need molded body armor. Keaton obviously did. Just imagine Keaton in West's suit. But that's besides the point. Batman has NEVER been just some average joe shmoe in a costume. To fight crime, put yourself in harm's way, and do battle with society's worst criminal element you obviously need to be in great shape. Not Keaton average.

I find the Nolan films boring as sin. Never cared for comic books. And the videogames are entertaining, but nothing more. The 2 Burton Batman films are PERFECT. Specially Returns. Burton understood that it was stupid to bring Batman to our world (or it would come put as idiotic as Nolan films) and the best option was to create a REAL WORLD FOR BATMAN. He did it flawlessly. Either of the 2 are timeless. Dark fairytales. I've been watching them since I was a kid in the 80s. I will literally never get tired of them. Also, Bale was a TERRIBLE. LAUGHABLE Batman. His voice alone was ridiculous.
