Arturo est un de mes pianistes préférés: un vrai génie, c'est vrai. Et il a su capter l'âme de Debussy. Un prince de la musique.

I had a little electric piano that was gifted to me by my parents for me to learn on... unfortunately I never did achieve to a great magnitude on that piano. But this song - it was prerecorded on my piano and I would listen to it practically every day. This is by far my favorite song. I feel nostalgia, melancholy, and freedom all at the same time. I even found the sheet music and brought it to my piano teacher begging her to let me learn the piece. She refused, knowing I was not advanced enough to learn yet. Never did I quite reach that point. But here I am, years and years later and I have found the exact recording that was on my piano. I know for a fact this is the version I listened to throughout my early adolescent years. And then the emotions wash over me once again.

Have you ever thought of learning it anyway? It's quite achievable with training and hardwork for a few months. It may seem really hard at the begining, but once memorised, it gets easier to train.

it doesnt matter if he plays it faster or slower.. its the feeling that grabs the attention of the audience... if he puts emotion into the song, even though it may say "play as written", it doesnt matter if its too fast or slow, it will still sound beautiful.. :)
@pavaomrazek
Жыл бұрын
Debussy himself didn't play his pieces as he wrote them. He always added his own rubato, accelerando, tempo change etc. That just proves the theory that Debussy shouldn't be played "as written".

The piece is dedicated to (auburn-haired) singer Marie Blanche Vasnier for whom the much younger Debussy wished to create songs inspired by her voice. Its text is the poem La fille aux cheveux de lin No. 4 of the Chansons écossaises (Scottish songs) from Charles Leconte de Lisle's Poemes antiques (Ancient poems), published by Alphonse Lemerre in Paris, 1874.

This video follows Debussy in how he wanted to present these pieces, which is a great idea. In the printed score Debussy insisted that the title of the piece must be put at the end of the piece, not in the beginning as usual. The title at the beginning here is that of the previous prelude.

A perfect interpretation of "as slow as possible!" aka, Bartok's "Rubato parlando" as an antipode of folk music with "Allegro Giocoso. " Follow into Ciccolini's version of Debussy's La plus que lente (as slow as possible). The follow this feeling for these works into André Laplante's work in Ravel, especially his Miroirs III. Une Barque sur L'Ocean.
