Possibly Dylan's greatest song. The whole history of the American South in five verses, without a wasted word or phrase. Genius.

Love Mick Taylor's slide playing here, of course. Great tone and feel. Mick's singing is really good here, too. Great performance.

Absolutely not. Taylor's magic is still there, despite all the years of wear and tear. His phrasing from the 7:37 mark onward is unbelievable in every sense of the word. A ferocious tension and control with the faintest impression of being played at a faster speed, the bends that keep perambulating upwards and form a tapestry above you like smoke, and that beautiful vibrato tinged with melancholy ... What an inimitable touch. It holds time captive.
