Happy 65th Birthday Micky. One of the greatest guitar players on earth.

I was there too. Marsden and Moody were the best Whitesnake guitarists for sure.

No doubt! I liked 1987 and Slip of the Tongue but nothing after that. And best best of Whitesnake was before 1987. Sykes did a good job too, Good to see Coverdale before he became Farraw Fawcett

Marsden was a band member 'til 1981! The second guitar player in this clip is NOT Bernie. (I think it's Mel Galley). "Moody" is an awesome slide player. Love his "Gold Top" Gibson Les Paul. Marsden died in 2023. R.I.P Bernie.

I was there, watching live (showing my age now !!). But I've also got the VHS cassette of the recording, and my kids love it as well - they've got good taste :-) Micky - well, the whole lot of 'em, to be honest - are legends. I never tire of listening to my old collection.

So was I. Do you remember how the sound panned around the stadium between the stacked PA towers placed on the perimeter?

In the early Whitesnake days when I was the sound engineer, I'd put an echo during the stops in this great slide intro, it was good fun and Micky enjoyed it 👍🇬🇧

I was fortunate to meet Micky at the 100 club, we were filming an interview with John Walters about blues and Big Bill Broonzy, what a lovely man had a chat with him, I told him I'd seen him a few times at Hammersmith, he made me smile saying he had to get out before the band turned all perms, glam and spandex

He didn't quit Whitesnake, Coverdale fired him because he wanted John Sykes to play with him.

Speaking of that time, Moody was a guitarist with blues rock orientation, it did not fit with the sound that Coverdale wanted for future .... it's my point of view ...

@@fmtfniuprog8029 I think it was a smart career move in the end. Whitesnake would've been left behind in the 70s if he didn't get a more metal oriented lineup with different musicians.

Anki Hansen hello Anki, while it’s true that DC wanted Sykes in the band, it’s not true that he fired Moody. He resigned at a band meeting he asked for that Coverdale didn’t bother to attend because he had guests. Not much respect for a lifelong friend who had been a major contributor to your solo career and your band for ten years, it seems. Still, as neither of us were there, we don’t really know who was right or wrong. I certainly wasn’t a fan of Sykes era Whitesnake and they’ve only gotten further away from where they started. Have a lovely day.

If you want to hear Mickey's slide playing at its best, check out Lady, the opening track of Coverdale's first solo album. His playing on that track is glorious.
