This build is a beauty. Strap a 3000mAh li ion pack and you'll be set for fixed wing flying times. Crossfire and a powerful VTX and what a recipe for a little cruiser. Great editing by the way.

All of my AKK VTX have built in microphones so you can listen while you fly, I have never found it useful, I listen to music while I fly. How far can you fly out with it? Flying in circles isn't the same as flying out 4 km and flying back especially if you have to fight the wind on the way out or back.

Talking long range flight I am wondering for clarification, how far away can I fly this with range optimized? What would the total estimated cost for this build be? My goal is minimum weight craft with maximum range & endurance. I want to use with DJI digital goggles and caddx vista.

If regulations allow you to fly beyond visual line-of-sight in your area, your control signal with Crossfire won't be a limiting factor (Crossfire can go several miles). Your limiting factors would then be your usable battery life (depends on weight of build, props used, etc.) and your FPV video signal (which not only depends on VTX power but your transit antenna on your quad as well as the receiver antennae you use on goggles, the environment you fly in, wide-open landscape with no interference or otherwise). So, there's not a 1 size fits all answer to your question. Generally speaking, with the 4S 1100 mah lipo and setup I used, I would estimate 3-4 miles.

Hey Tmac, lets update that design with an ELRS receiver , and a VTX like the RushFPV Tank Solo or AKK Ultra long range, i would like to remove the velcro for the VTX on the original design and add proper screw mounting, i friend of mine melted the velcro with the VTX heat :D , Still, you did a super great Job building it, Ohhh i forgot the 4s 18650's pack !! Best. R.

nice vid as allways.. i recently had my skyzone o30 stolen as well as my twiglet mini out of my mates car. the gits also had away his t16 at the same time. what a shock it was as we got back to his car to find the boot lid wide open. im now having to save for a new set, probably the 04x this time. Not working as have blood pressure issues at the moment so couldnt have happened at a worse time.. still have my pigmy ratler though horagh and i do love it..

After a second look I was comparing your components to the Flywoo. The Mamba esc u have selected is way more robust than the Flywoo 16x16 esc. Bardwell was cautioning using a 4s with a 16x16 esc. Says 4s is on the outer limits of its ability. If someone was trying to get longer flight times with a large 4s and used to much throttle to fast could burn an esc. I’d build this Rattler (and plan to) before I’d buy the Flywoo, Nice job. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Yep! That was very insightful of you! That's why I mentioned (subtly) in the video, the Rattler takes two 20x20 stacks, and can also use an AIO board with the optional 3D mount (I've used the BetaFPV Toothpick V3 AIO board and its been solid, but pick your favorite with a good ESC rating). I've done my best to design the Rattler to be a versatile beast. Just configure her for what type of flying you want to do. Takes the Caddx Vista too if someone's into the digital world of FPV. Its also quite durable💪

Great Video! Just a question as I am new to this, would the parts you used in the video be compatible with a Taranis QX7 transmitter?
@TMacFPV
3 жыл бұрын
Everything works with any transmitter with the exception of the receiver. The receiver and transmitter on any quadcopter (quad( must be compatible. On this quad, I am using the 900 mhz TBS Crossfire Nano receiver in the quadcopter with the Crossfire module attached to my transmitter. The QX7 is not "natively" compatible with Crossfire, however, you can do a simple modification (mod) to it which makes it compatible. Here's a short video on that kzitem.info/news/bejne/zJh3q6Jnn6iGjKQ As you said you're new to this exciting hobby, I'd encourage you to check out my site at tmacfpv.com/ for free resources, recommended FPV gear (transmitter, goggles, drone, simulator, etc.), "Build Your Own" tips & supplies, and the Fast Track FPV Course designed for "Rookie" FPV Pilots. Great Video. I would like to build my first LR FPV drone, but i would like to go the ELRS route. Do you think i could use a Happymodel ELRS X1 AIO 4in1 Flight controller (integrated 12A ESC) for this? Other components would be the same as you are using. Best regards, Ray
@TMacFPV
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Raymond, great to hear from you. I personally would not use a 12A AIO with an integrated receiver onboard for an LR quad. I'd go with an AIO FC & ESC (25A at least for 4S with these type motors) and substitute a separate ELRS receiver (BetaFPV Nano?) for the Crossfire receiver I have onboard this quad in the video. I'd rather have a greater capacity ESC than is needed (especially on an LR quad) and definitely a reliable (non-integrated) receiver

I believe you CAN! 👍 Take a look at the wiring diagram for the stack on this site (it's one of the images available to look at). You should be able to connect a GPS module to UART 3 (TX3 and RX3): bit.ly/36Pby3j It comes with buzzer pads, and it shows you how to connect TBS Crossfire , camera and receiver to it!

I'm confused. Isn't the flight controller mounted backwards? That white triangle points forward direction, isn't it?
@TMacFPV
4 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew! Great question & very perceptive👌 Yes. You can mount the flight controller any way you would like to fit your build +backwards, sideways, upside down or any combo of those). All you do then is "rotate" it in the Configuration Tab if Betaflight on the appropriate axis (it axes). Hope that clarified things for you & if you still have questions, let me know!👍

Hi Did you use Li ion 3s or 4s packs for long range flying
@TMacFPV
4 жыл бұрын
Not yet, of course you can use whatever batteries you want. For this video, I just stuck with 3S & 4S LiPos that you see when I weighed the Rattler XF in with them towards the end of the video. 3S & 4S LiIon packs will get you even longer flight times (with less "punch")

Hey Home of Creation! The 2.5mm baseplate Diamondback Rattler is currently sold out. I'm not certain when a new batch of 2.5mm baseplates will be available. I do have the 3.0mm baseplate version in stock that is only 6 grams more with 12mm motor mounts. I also have the single-stack Pygmy Rattler (that spins 3" props) in stock. I can 19 minutes with this one on GNB 4S 1100 mah LiPos! There also may be a "new release" coming out "soon!" 🤔🤩

@@rphatteras Ok Rob, I had to find it for you. I'm providing you the shared link to it. Keep in mind, I originally designed it for a BN220 GPS module and in the video I'm using it for a Matek SAM M8Q (these seem to work better for me). Anyway, to make it fit the SAM M8Q (instead of designing another one since I had an extra one of these lying around), I simply melted the back of it down with my soldering iron so the M8Q can rest flat on top of it. It sticks out the back of the mount though. Not the best-looking thing, but hey-it works! use it if you want! drive.google.com/file/d/1BZb45osyxl2dNmq8pB0reb0IAYSsnp21/view?usp=sharing
