Michael and Laura Sweet walk you through their 1954 home, which was designed by well-known Iowa architect, James Lynch. The home is characterized by its shallow pitched gable roof, its three dominant roof beams, a kitchen-to-dining room passthrough and an enchanting stepped-up back yard. Originally designed with a carport, this was subsequently enclosed to create a garage, probably a good modification, considering Iowa winters! The Sweets have a collection of Mid-Century pieces including the famous Womb Chair, designed by Eero Saarinen at Florence Knoll's request, for "a chair that was like a basket full of pillows.” Michael particularly loves the molded plywood and fiberglass furniture of the 50's and 60's. The hosts also share their Mid-Century Modern reading recommendations.
