To be honest, Torre got out managed in EVERY series after Don Zimmer left.

Joe is an overrated manager. His teams were always stacked. Look how his Mets tenure went, for instance. Jeter, Rivera, etc made him like Jordan and Pippen made Phil Jackson.

I remember this interview. The irony is how they criticised him for enjoying his day as if he shouldn't have the right to. The next day he dies... Just puts how little of importance sports are in perspective.

Russo added that if “I am a Yankee, I am not enjoying any day in New York.” Lidle responded, “I have friends here. I am not allowed to go and enjoy this day in New York?” Lidle: “I’d like to meet you sometime and we can sit down and you can really get to know me instead of just what you think about me.” Francesa responded by saying, “I haven’t really thought much about you. I really haven’t thought much about you at all, to be honest with you. " Source: NY Post October 12, 2006 There's more to life than sports.

Haunting Part II: Mike Francesa uses Lidle’s "selected" newspaper quotes as an “indictment” against Yankee manager Joe Torre. Lidle later states, I’d like to meet you sometime and we can sit down and you guys can get to know me instead of just what you think of me.” Francesa replied, “I haven’t thought much about you at all, to be honest with you

Haunting Interview Part I: Cory Lidle calls the show to defend himself. What Pro baller does that theses days? Chris Russo suggests Lidle should be a shut-in (instead of showing friends the sights of NYC) after being busted up by the Tigers. What childish fanaticism. There is LIFE AFTER ANY BASEBALL GAME.

Haunting Part III ”When Francesa said that, I agreed with him. Separate yourself from friendship (sans Bill Parcells) and do your job as a journalist / “Media Personality” But later on, when reports came out after his death, it’s a shame that everyone did not get the chance to know such a well rounded family man as Cory Lidle.

+Stephen Rutledge With "nothingness"? You aren't the #1 radio show for almost 20 years when you fill hours with "nothingness" They asked Lidle about the quotes. Lidle called in on his own accord. They did not reach out to him, and berate him. Not to mention, this is what you deal with, in The NY Media. It's a tough market, and things get blown out of proportion. You have to be mentally tough enough to handle shit like this.

Also Lidle needed to shut up! He called in first of all to Defend his Quotes about the Tigers being more ready! The way he's defending himself, he's totally twisting & skating by with changing the narrative on his direct quotes! Lidle just made himself look so pathetic with his defense! It was an indictment against Joe Torre!

This was the low point of the entire history of Mike And the Mad Dog. They were wrong to jump on Lidle period and Russo in particular was caring a hate-filled grudge over something so meaningless in the bigger picture of life. As much as I respect and admire what they accomplished on the air, this program is horrible to watch in light of what happened and the fact that neither had the guts to apologize on-air and acknowledge that perhaps they crossed a line is even more shameful.

These guys should be ashamed of themselves by blaming Cory for the Yankees losing and trying to set up Cory to blame the manager. Im not a fan of the Yankees but they were very good back in the day and played very well but the Tigers played better. These guys Mike and the Mad Dog suck for what they did to Cory!!!!!!!!!!!!
