The shots Ribalta took in this fight were incredible. Very tough guy to withstand that pummelling. For me, this fight featured some of Tyson’s best work. That body shot / upper cut combination was absolutely terrifying when it landed. Again, huge respect for Ribalta for continuing.

Ribalta's corner failed him miserably. They knew he was overmatched and they allowed him to continue to take those hellacious punches. Even years later I still cringe looking at it. Goodness gracious. You may have heard Holmes, Shavers and a lot of the guys from the 70s talk down about Mike Tyson and not give him his just due, but trust me, no one believed them. And Holmes was able to get up from Shaver's punches, but not Mike Tyson's. People always say, " well Holmes was past it. " Was he? He gave Holyfield a spirited fight YEARS later and he also beat an undefeated Ray Mercer. And no one else outside of Mike ever stopped Larry inside the distance. Tyson, at this point in his career, was a juggernaut. No one had ever seen a fighter with Ali's handspeed and the power of a Foreman and Shavers all rolled into one. He was amazing. Ali and Frazier both acknowledged how special of a fighter Mike was. They always said he was one of the greats.

Went the distance with Marvis Frazier, James Smith, Witherspoon, Dokes, Larry Holmes, Tubbs. And a a good victory against Leon Spinks. Not so bad for a journeyman.
