thanks for making this video! most of the drum tutorials on youtube doesn't work really well for bass music genres i have some tips: - on the sine oscillator, setting harmonic to zero and modulating shift instead of semitone leaves the pitch unaffected by any midi notes - i personally think the curve modulator is better for making drums because you can set the exact duration time in milliseconds - instead of using khs distortion (which has oversampling that cannot be turned off), you can use the clip feature on the transient shaper snap-in (and using the gain snap-in above it) so your kick sample is already normalized to 0 dB when you bounce it to audio

ooh the harmonic thing might be useful thank you for that. i find that the clipper on the transient shaper isn't really good and sometimes is a little too flat. normally i use gclip but i wanted to keep this tutorial as much all in one as i can haha.

Good video! Covered the basics and showed how to make a kick in a very efficient way. I already know how to make kick but I watched this anyway and it inspired me to start making kicks again, even though I have way too many kicks already. My process for making kicks is pretty much identical to the one you showed except I use Patcher in FL. It's like Snap Heap on steroids. If I were to do everything in Phaseplant I'd probably still do parallel processing in Patcher.

This is extremely helpful for modern sound design! Thank you :) I’m curious about where you learned this? Is it just trial and error? You seem so far ahead!

i just got creative with analyzing the stuff i liked. the waveform trick has really helped gain a better understanding with getting the right kicks and also mixing. it definitely took a while though! i would say i started getting good results after maybe 2 years of drum design.

I made a kick on operator but this one sounds clean

for some reason I noticed some synths like serum, vital, and operator have a weird limit to their pitch range. my kicks end up sounding dull so I normally make them using phaseplant or kick2.

I think it has to do with a pitch ramp kicks that start from with the mids a thumpy-punchy while higher ones sound more clicky-punchy
