I have the same box with an i5-8600T (8GB RAM, no storage, but drive caddy included) that I got off ebay for $99 - wish I had bought two of them at that price. I can confirm that it runs 64GB of RAM (2x32GB DDR4 3200, dual rank) without any problems so far. Unfortunately, the drive caddy doesn't seem to fit in properly when I add the second NVMe drive. Something to investigate further.

The 6th gen can hold 32GB of RAM right? Is it true that the EliteDesk can accomodate 2 NvME SSDs?

Your title says "Corse" not "Cores, I figured you may want to know that! I'm sorta like a kid on Christmas right now because I got one of these exact computers recently. Now I actually have some place to start in my Homelab journey, thank you!

I have Elitedesk 800 G4 with an M2 2280 6x SATA card and an M2 E Key (WiFi slot) 2x SATA card. Running TrueNAS Scale Dragonfish ok. 5x 2.5” HDD RAID Z2 with 1 extra HDD as spare. Boots from SSD. 1x M2 free, so may put an NVMe cache in it, or use as zlog to increase write speed. The read speed is good on ZFS with more vdevs, I get 3x write speed. Powering the disks via 4x USB (with 3 splitters) from external USB PD. It will work from the HP’s USB’s

My HDD’s are used, only 320Gb but cost 1.75 USD for each! Storage is almost 900Gb, with 2 disk parity, or redundancy. The spare will be used automatically if any 1 disk fails, I will get notified. Being small disks, they will not take long to ‘re-silver’ so the 2 disk parity should be enough. I have another older spare. May buy more replacements. Installed disks have weekly long SMART testing. None have too many hours, or aging. One disk is hardly used, another is about same hours I have on a Samsung EVO that is 2 years old, but was used 24/7. Not server HDD’s but this is my backup NAS usually only on Sundays.

@@ernestgalvan9037 Not much info on it, and can't put photo here. its NVME to 6 port SATA, Chinese, probably available on AliExpress, i bought it on another shopping site, in Asia. There is also a 5 port version, and a 5 port NGFF version. Now using 6x HDD in ZFS storage pool, with 1 extra HDD as hot spare. Booting a SSD from the 6 port. My machine did not have a built-in SATA ribbon cable, or disk cage. Now also have 32Gb ram, a 500Gb NVME for Proxmox, and upgraded i7 8700T for vm's. I only use this as a backup NAS on Sundays. The HP does not power it all, via USB with the extra disks.
