With the proper prop for the motor you can get better thrust without hurting your fuel consumption. I live on a 50ft 35ton steel hull pontoon houseboat in the San Joaquin Delta in Northern California. My prop that was on my boat (motor 4 cylinder 2.8liter chevy) I could get up to about 15mph 20 pushing it. I contacted a company in Jackson CA. 🇺🇸 they figured out what would be the most efficient thrust to push my boat at the same R.P.M. . I now get 25 mph out of it 30 pushing it and i used the same amount of fuel. I have a lot of weight on my boat when I move it too. Including 2 mobility golden companion 440 mobility scooter a Nuecanoe Frontier 12ft kayak Pelican Bass Boat if i come post pictures of my houseboat i would post the photos of the remodel that was done on it before I bought it. Full size 4 burner gas stove and oven pellet stove heater all new Maplewood cabinets granite counter tops. I put in a chest freezer and a Ecoflow Delta Mini battery backup system with spare battery. Solar panels are next

Probably a bit late now, but for the future, treating the rust with a rust converter (there are mnay brands, something like Fertan for example) will turn the remaining rust bedded in the steel in to a stable black oxide which will resist further rusting. Do this & let it dry, before you paint. The rust convertor can be applied (& arguably is best applied) on damp steel.

Not an expert but I think nowadays many primers for metal have rust inhibitors incorporated. These not only prevent rust from forming, but also eliminate any rust already formed on the surface.

It's probably too late now but using the tape, you could tape one edge of the flute board to roof and used the old aluminium window frames as support struts to make temporary awnings over the windows too keep them dry as you paint them. broom sticks would also work as temporary support struts, but use what ever you have to hand. It's amazing what you can fashion together with a little tape.

Lots of comments on the do and don't do, but I have to side with the do take it out of the water. I know you want it done, and I still think on the ground, survey the hull, if all is OK then sand blast the lot in one go, inside and out, rust treat it all, prime it and give it one coat to seal it. most primer is porous so one coat should seal it. At least on land you can tarp cover it to work in the rain, and there may be access to mains electricity power.
@gordonrobertson4125

Doing well. One panel at a time and you have something positive done to look back on and know that you are moving forward.. Flapper sanding discs, wire wheel and what we used to call a "windy hammer" when you get to the serious rust, are really useful and faster than straight sanding pads. A compressor might be useful as you have a lot of sanding, grinding and painting to do. Can always sell it when you are finished with it. I hope you are using a good etch primer. Will the new windows go straight into the openings? Perhaps a portable camping gazebo would provide cover when it (inevitably) rains. I also recommend to not leave anything outside on the boat that you want to keep and when the new windows go in, cover them up (from the inside) so passers-by cannot see inside. A good lock and perhaps a remote video alarm when you have valuable items inside. Keep it going as I am enjoying your work.

Looking Good! You might want to consider using a rust converter (Ophospho is one brand) before you prime. It will convert the rust to an inert material that is hard and strong. When you mount the windows, using Butyl Rubber Tape between the frames and the deck house will make a watertight seal and make up for any irregularities in the surface of the boat. I got it at a glazing supplier when I rebuilt the windows on my motor yacht. Keep up the good work!

Hey guys looks like you're getting the boat going I'm glad you're getting the paint down but you need to shoot it twice with Epoxy paint get it airless and shoot it next the next door round make sure it's really good thick epoxy paint but your biggest thing you got to do you got to get the boat out of the water and you need to have it not sandblasted but this new treatment they use dry ice blasting it's better for the metal and you'll find all the soft spots that need to be cut and welded and then you need to do at least two spray jobs of the bottom three would be better. I personally if it was my boat personally even though it's expensive I would have dustless sandblasted with the dry ice on the outside and the inside stripped it right down to bare metal and then sprayed it. Any place where the paint is lifting you'll need to go and resend it and then before you paint wipe it down with alcohol or turpentine really really good to get all the impurities that and the crap that's on the metal then roll it or spray it I think sprains better though that's what I would do same thing with the inside you need to wipe everything down before you spray it you want to have really clean metal but the boat will look incredible once you get it done it's a nice looking boat
