Did you know how to quickly unscrew a rusted bolt and nut? There is a miracle recipe from a tire shop.
☑ The cheapest set of screw heads - alli.pub/70tlg...
My friend got into an unpleasant situation when he came to change tires at a tire shop. The wheel bolts were so rusted that when he tried to unscrew them, the edges licked off. The keys and heads turn.
The guys could unscrew the bolts, but they scared him with the price and possible problems. So he came to me.
If there were stamped steel disks here, I would weld on nuts, and unscrew them without difficulty. This would be the cheapest and most angry option.
You can weld on an unnecessary head.
I somehow lost a 12-sided hub head, I had to improvise. I ruined the head. I left it as a keepsake.
These are cast wheels, so welding is not suitable.
I also ruled out extractors of this type and Torx, because you can only drill into a bolt, and they break quite often on rusted bolts.
So how to quickly unscrew a rusted bolt and nut? This is a miracle recipe from a tire shop.
The only correct solution would be to use a screw impact head. By the way, they are used at tire shops. Yes. The set is expensive - perhaps that is why tire shops inflate the price. But these same heads are also sold individually. Which is much cheaper in the end. In addition, it will be your head.
It is easy to select an impact screw head. If you have a nut or bolt for a key, say, for nineteen, then you also buy a screw head for nineteen. The head inside is not straight as usual, but conical with sharp edges. The deeper you hammer the head, the more it bites into the metal with its edges. These heads are also used to unscrew the secret bolts. The head for the secret bolts is selected individually. It should go just a little onto the secret bolt, catching with the edges. If the secret bolts have an external rotating ring - there are some like that - then the ring needs to be cut off with a chisel or a center punch. And then everything follows the same pattern.
This is in theory. Now let's see how it works in practice. And we will unscrew the damaged bolts with our own hands.
Only three bolts were unscrewed with a wrench. The edges here are not licked very much, it is advisable to clean the threads with a brush. Or better yet, install new bolts. Add a little copper or graphite grease and tighten more than usual.
In theory, this should relieve the load on the damaged bolts a little. Tightened.
Let's treat the damaged bolts with WD-40. This should also help.
And we will probably start with this bolt. We hammer it in until it stops. It doesn't go any further. Let's try. The first bolt went! This is what it looks like. In order to knock out the bolt without damaging the head, I cut off two edges for a vice, and now we'll knock. It was quite easy. As you can see, there's practically nothing left of the factory edges. Note the deep grooves left by the screw head. We could have finished here, but there will always be at least one couch potato who will claim that we were just lucky.
So let's unscrew the second licked bolt. We hammer it in. It doesn't go any further and pops out. It seems that everything is bad. The head is not hammered in tightly, and it may seem that the hypothetical couch potato is kind of right. But we don't give up. We put the head in. And we try. Screw heads, like extractors, bite into the metal even harder and deeper when unscrewing. The lever rests against the tile, you'll have to turn the wheel. The wheel was turned by simply rolling the car back. We try again. Off we go. So we unscrewed the second bolt with our own hands. Since the head of this bolt popped out by itself, we will try to knock it out without cutting the edges. It worked. This bolt, like the first one, is without options, it needs to be replaced.
In general, screw heads really work and are capable of unscrewing damaged bolts and nuts not only on wheels.
Screw impact heads have several names. You can search for them on the Internet as extractor heads, heads for damaged nuts, and so on.
