Watching these matches gives me an immense appreciation of how AWESOME Akira Taue is as a heel. Man, that dude was just terrific. He was like a shark going after everyone's weak spots and his intense hatred of Kawada at the time was FANTASTIC.

Can I just point out something that modern wrestlers need to do more of? Don't just let your opponents carry out their gameplan without putting up a fight. 7:13 Look at how Misawa reacts to Taue targeting his shoulder We're undoubtedly in another golden age of pro wrestling but limbwork has often been reduced to an afterthought. The fans don't really buy into it anymore. But I have a feeling modern wrestlers can get a lot more out of less if they start doing more of the small things like Misawa realising his opponent's strategy, moving his shoulder out of the way, and giving a small look that's a perfect combination of "Yes, I know what you're trying to do" and "Fuck, I know what they're trying to do".

Excellent point. It's really a subtle touch especially with how Misawa becomes ever so defensive of it.

The greatest era of the greatest promotion of all time and oddly i think many still dont know much about it. Especially those of you in the west often just know some guy named Dave tossed a bunch of stars at it. I love the idea of the video essays cause i think it will help bring it alive for new fans and make those of who grew up on it relive great memories. I often try to push current AJPW in Facebook wrestling groups full of puro fans who maybe only know New Japan and these actually help to explain style, give highlights, and fill in history. This style of video is also what someone needs to do for AJW cause joshi fans are starting to blossom in the west.

I have an MVC t-shirt, so I admit a bit of bias. Although, these matches against Kawada & Misawa are not as good as they should have been considering the talent of all four men. I think you keyed in on it with how they were booked to slow down the dynamic team as opposed to attempting to match them move for move. I also think that many of their matches against other gaijin teams matched their smash-mouth style better. The matches with Hansen & Spivey, Tsuruta & Taue, and the Steiners in WCW for whatever reason clicked better.

Why don't do by chronological order in AJPW?
@JosephMontecilloYT

These are generally chronological actually but some matches go better together instead of strictly going match to match to match like discussing the MVC series as a whole instead of lumping it with the other matches at the start of the year.
