This is good advice Lu. Things are getting expensive due to inflation, I’m shocked how much more a fully loaded mister fpga is than when I bought in a few years ago.

My EXTREMELY minimal setup is DE10-Nano + Antonio Villena IOUSB Mini (without case), 128MB 4C SDRAM, and 1TB Lexar PLAY microSD card. The IOUSB Mini is an analog IO board with an improved DAC which eliminates the need for a USB hub (integrated) and power switch (uses SOG switch with a small mod). Like most 4-chip SDRAM modules, mine doesn’t work well with the single-SDRAM Saturn core so opt for the 2-chip version if you try to replicate this minimal setup (he does sell one). Also, the USB hub reboots if you have draw too much power from the stock DE10-Nano PSU. I experienced it with multiple controllers plugged in simultaneously or during force feedback when enabling Rumble Pak on my wired Nintendo Switch Online N64 controller. Pretty sure using the Bluetooth and WiFi dongle will fix this for my NSO N64 controllers but this is supposed to be minimal, right? ;) The DB9+SNAC port is kinda cool too, since it lets you use low latency DB9 gamepads across multiple cores and works for SNAC devices. I had to get his DB9 Decapod SNAC+Daemonbyte adapter.

Solid basics video. :) I understand why you put it into two videos but I think it would be perfect for beginners if you quickly explained how to add Mr. Fusion and update_all to fully get started. :)

Really well done video. I think you will get most people going with little hassle. It's sad that the DE-10 Nano is so expensive now. I bought mine for $176 in 2021. I want to recommend MiSTer to people but refrain knowing they will likely be spending $400 or more by the time they get a case and a controller. Not sure if this situation will ever improve but I'm glad I'm setup already. Similar experience using Raspberry Pis. They used to be plentiful and cheap. Not so much now.

The price definitely sucks now, I was able to get mine for about 400 Canadian after shipping with the the analog board and power supply.

Is there a list of games or cores that can work without the SDRAM add-on board?

Can the Mister Laggy be used with this set up?

No, the Mr Laggy works with the User port which is found on either of the MiSTer IO boards
