This is a kit you build with your 6 year old kid. They have endless imagination and don’t care if it looks reasonable or not. It can teach them the basic fundamentals of how things fit together and still allow playing with it while not having you stressed about the complete lack of detail. No filling or paint needed. Just something that resembles a plane. The biggest gift is the time spent with them at that age.

A rare case where not only the reissuing company has let the side down, but the original was too 😅 . (the original Czech' firm also having put this "GR.1" in a misleading rebox) Still: at least the 1974 Frog GR.1, the 1972 Matchbox GR.1, the 1969 Airfix GR.1 and 1981 Matchbox SHAR FRS.1 can be said to be vastly better than a "Harrier" tooling from the 1990's 😂. Revell: if you're listening; *sell the Matchbox Harrier moulds to another firm if you aren't going to use 'em* ... then Harrier fans on a budget could have something better than... this 😅.
@BWProbst
7 ай бұрын
Well ... speaking as a Harrier connoisseur (I have a ridiculous number of them in the stash) ... the Matchbox Harrier and Sea Harrier kits aren't that great, actually. Some severe shape problems (they're too fat around the fuselage) and the wing joins are weak and prone to break; the intakes and exhausts are badly depicted and the air brake (not a separate part, just an outline on the bottom of the fuselage) is the wrong size and shape. And no cockpit interior, but that's typical of their era. That being said, the decals, particularly in the Sea Harrier kits, are first-rate, and with a bit (well, a lot) of effort you can make something that looks good in the end -- certainly superior to the MisterCraft nonsense! You are correct that the original Airfix GR.1 kit was quite a good kit for its day, and there's no shame in building one even now. I haven't built the FROG but it looks OK in the box. I'd say they all look OK, but the Lindberg GR.1 (later re-issued by Revell) doesn't look much better than the MisterCraft, sadly.

I am quite a new modeller when it comes to actually building something, but I've been through 10 years of learning techniques through online videos and forums. I always enjoyed seeing people build stuff and now it's my time. However, Mistercraft "hobby kits" (more like torture devices) are just absolutely painful. They try to suck you in with cool box arts, but when you actually open the box, it's like you went all the way back to the 1960s. Not to diss old kits, but everything we have nowadays is better than those. I thought Heller was the king of all crap models, because they keep pumping out kits with raised panel lines in 2024, and raised panel lines are the bane of my existence. But here comes Mistercraft, casually throwing out crap kit after crap kit on the market. They even have some starter sets which they call "Complete Kit". Judging from pictures, seems like they give you 10 different paints of various colors that don't even match the model you're building, 2 brushes and a small cement pot. I actually want to know if ay of those are of at least decent quality. My bet: NONE of them are.

BUT and as you can see it's a huge but Many if not most of ZTS Plastyk kits were designed in the '80s in Soviet occupied Poland. You know, I remember I had to wait in a queue with my grandpa for 6 hours to buy toilet paper. And yet, in this gray and poor world, on the evenings, I could sit in my room and build my ZTS Plastyk - PZLs, Yakovlevs, Ilyushins, Migs etc. And it was heaven. Watching this video again after rewatching the unboxing.. '... the next abomination on the cab rank of nonsense...' *crying laughing* The thought occurs that maybe the fuselage was made by a different company as everything that attaches to it seems to be a different colour plastic; the wings and elevators are both lighter plastic than the fuselage. Maybe the company that moulded the fuselage ignored the instructions and didn't do the same aircraft, just a bog standard Harrier? That could be partly why the decals don't match the fuselage - they're not for the same model - perhaps intended for the AV8B or the GR7 that Mistercraft also make. Mind you that doesn't excuse getting decals on the /same/ sheet wrong.. 9 isn't next to 0 so they can't say it's an accidental typo.
