Hi are those ring for the intercooler hose the same on the gti ed 30 and the normal gti
@volkswizard
Жыл бұрын
Well that is a good question. In the video I show you how VW has listed the parts incorrectly for the BYD 230 PS engine. The intercooler is the same on 200 + 230 but ETKA says 230 has the small seal on intercooler join while 200 has the big seal - impossible for both to be right and measuring confirms its the big seal needed so 230 diagram has them the wrong way around (so yes, same parts).

Good advice mate. I’ve changed loads of these in my ownership of the MK5. The only thing I do differently is I always put the cam follower into the HPFP first and make sure it’s well oiled. I guess your coming to the end of this project now? Would love to see more of it. Keep up the good work 👍🏼

Hi Kenneth, the car has loads of history (the box it's in was in the first video). It's received all the regular servicing things but not the preventative maintenance bits. I've done a few cambelts on these and they are OK but it's not due for a while yet, definitely not this side of autumn.

Subscribed fan, first found your channel with the mk4 vs Mk5 R32 video as I had a mk4 r32. The scirooco r vs golf r vid was great, as i now own a scirooco R. And after buying the cam follower few months ago, fitted the cam follower yesterday real time ( paused a few times😂) watching this guilde. The car is on 75k miles and i would say the wear was exactly the same amount. Watch the new videos each week 👍

Regarding the camp follower, i changed it at 70,000. And there was nothing wrong with it I've since asked VW parts department regarding how frequently, you should change the cam follow, according to them there is no advisory. So what is it, if you tune the car is it likely to wear out far a quicker??

This is a perfect example of how people can save a lot of money and potential time off the road, by having a basic mechanical understanding and a limited number of tools. And 12 minutes and £22 to save all the destruction that would happen if you ignored it, is an easy decision to make. And the more of these cars that can be saved when the alternative would be a Kenwood Chef is a no brainier. Keep up the great work Andrew.

I sold my Mk5 GTI and got into a Mk7.5 Sportwagen. The extra space (for the dog), DSG (for the fiance), and AWD (for the Canadian winter) are awesome to have and it really isn't much slower with the faster shifts. But there was something special about that Mk5, so fun to throw into turns and it pulled pretty hard once I went stage 2. Cam follower was one of the first things I did when I got the car and one of my first DIYs. I've driven a Mk7 GTI and obviously it's a nicer car than both my wagon and the old GTI, but there wasn't the same raw fun about it and it's not quite as functional as the wagon. I love the wagon, it's a perfect daily for us but watching this Mk5 series is reminding me how much fun I had with that 08 GTI and still got 90% of the functionality of the new AWD wagon. Next car I'm going to try to ignore functionality and find something fun for summer drives, auto-x and the rare track day, currently looking at something like an MX-5, E82 128i, Mk2 GTI/Corrado, or a Boxster/Cayman. Great stuff as always.

When one has the intercooler pipes off I agree with inspecting the lugs on the pipe fittings. In my experience these can (and do) wear over time and can allow the pipe to pop out of the fitting. If the lugs have any wear at all then replace the pipe.

Nice work again 😎 in 2015 the top of the cam follower on my mates mk5 wore right through... new fuel pump required... 18 months later after having belt, water pump and timing chain replaced the oil pump chain snapped. At the time we were lead to believe the sprocket bolt sheared but i now reckon it was a seized balance shaft that caused the failure. Needless to say his engine was rebuilt 🙃 balance shaft delete kits are available, maybe worthwhile if you are on the preventative maintenance train 😎👍
