That's a GREAT point! 29psi IS what the procedure calls for in order to flush through the ABS module. If by choice, someone decided to do this w/o a pressure bleeder, ensure the engine is running when you have that second person pumping/releasing the brake pedal as you are bleeding. That will activate the ABS and provide the pressure necessary to bleed through - otherwise, you will definitely notice a difference in braking (for the worse). Decent video 👍

Thanks for the details on the non conventional bleeding procedure. The mk5 was a hassle too so I knew I look it up before hand this time! Been enjoying your detailed videos.

Good info re: psi setting. I can confirm that's in the Erwin manual. I like the before and after fluid color shots in your video too!

I keep seeing alternating advice saying 10 and 30psi for the mk7. Some say 20+ will blow seals, but you clearly didn't have an issue. Any thoughts on which is right?

Hey Kenton H, So that is something I would recommend on a MK7 only. Also keep in mind the older the plastic the more brittle. The reason I have it so high is to push the fluid through the abs system and make sure my system has no leaks. If you aren’t comfortable with that high of pressure dial it back. There is a minimum of 1.5 - 2 bar to push it through the abs system though. This would come out to between 21-29psi. I can only speak for my experience so don’t take this as gold but If your seals are blowing at that psi they need replaced. Your braking system by itself produces around 30+ bar which is around 400+psi when you hit the pedal! Cracking or blowing a reservoir is another story as I said above. This was famous on MK1 - Mk3’s. Ask me how I know! They had a different abs setup though. I hope this was helpful.

To bleed it out at the end to get level right I take it you need someone pumping the brake pedal and open rear bleed valve to let it out?
@chrisbenedettoracing

Hey Jamie, You can do it that way. Really any bleed valve at that point because there should not be any air in the lines. You can also use a fluid extractor (or a turkey baster) and take it out of the reservoir as well. It depends how much help I have that day as to how I do it. Hope this was helpful.

I thought you start with passenger rear first as it's the furthest from the reservoir? And why do you fillmthe resovoir before pumping fluid through the pump tank?

Hey Livinaway, The bleed process comes from Volkswagen of America. Allegedly it has something to do with how the abs system is bled. I have heard of people doing it the way you described without consequence. This is also how I have done most cars in the past. Not sure if it matters, I just chose to follow the recommendations. I know the abs pump is bled differently than MK6 and back using pressure instead of VAG Comm. The reason you fill the reservoir is to minimize any air that could get into the system when you attach the power bleeder and pressurize the system. Hope this was helpful!!!

I have a 2017 GTI and a Motive Power Bleeder. Is the PSI for sure supposed to be 30? I appreciate it1

I believe 15psi is enough on the motive

The Golf 7 ABS block does always need the 30PSI, of cause that doesn't depend from your power bleeder.
