You just saved me $125 per oil change. I am confident now that I can DIY this service. Thank you. Any concerns about the ramps, structurally? I have read about some scary close calls.

You're welcome. I've had these for years and have always used them on smallish cars. Never had an issue. I think the key is when you drive up them, don't smash into the stop, the plastic will fatigue over time and could crack. I always use 2 redundancy's when working under a car though. I left the jack under the pinch weld in this situation just in case. If I'm on jack stands, I have wheels or something else under the car as well.

It's one of the easiest cars to do. And the drain plug design makes it so the oil doesn't get on your hands as easily. Just make sure you use the right oil and keep it topped off!

@GibbysGarage15 it looked pretty dark. But drain pan is black & some old residue. 6500 miles and 14 months since bought w oil change. Just bought as a fun car to experience a GTI without committing to a new priced one.

Does the drain plug need to be replaced every oil change??
@GibbysGarage15
Ай бұрын
I'm not sure if it "needs" to, but my local dealership charges $8 per plug, which kind of defeats the purpose of DIY savings. I bought a bunch of aftermarket ones off Amazon for much cheaper, and I've had zero issues with them even after 10+ oil changes. That's just my experience.

You must change the crush washer. The plug is something you can do every other imo.

@@AndreaColasante297 I don't know that it makes a difference in how much oil comes out. At most you're leaving a few hundred mL in there. It's more important to do regular oil changes than to worry about "getting it all out." You're very welcome. Comments like these make making these videos all worth it!

@@GibbysGarage15 I've got the stock 19" wheels with 235/35-19 tires. I do have 8mm spacers though. Also, I had APR stage 2 MK5 GTI for 8.5 years and APR stage 1 MK7 R for almost 8 years with no breakdowns.
