Virgil Donati is such an innovator of double bass drumming. So much extreme metal guys have taken what he introduced and expanded on it. One of the best. His playing is so ahead of it's time.

Metal guys did stuff like this long before Virgil did. Just listen to stuff by Sean Reinert, Gene Hoglan, Vinnie Paul,, Pete Sandoval, Raymond Herrera, Thomas Haake...

Watching Bil Stewart again and I realize how relax he looked and played. Pulling the hi hat stand back with the left foot was what I've done it myself before LOL

I've met Roy Burn at Sam Ash in Westminster, Cali about 8 months before he passed away. He looked just he does in this video. I thought to myself "oh wow, this is Roy Burn" Having seen him in Modern Drummer mags for years. He say hi but didn't talk much to me

didn't realize who it was. i clicked expecting to see some crappy 80s glamour rock drummer. ha! what a surprise. virgil!! FREAKIN AMAZING!! (but tempesta?? what a cacophony) Gadd is always a treat, but this was very special. Stewart is a treat as well.
