Funny thing is millenials didn't invent participation trophies or ask for them-their parents did when they couldn't accept that their kids just weren't good at sports and didn't like them or care about them like they did, so they begged the schools to give kids SOMETHING just for playing so they could show it off to others.

I still unironically love 'Cool Kids' and they have made some good music over the last 10 years. I just like the innocence of it compared to the kind of songs we have in the charts now and then, even her voice crack is kind of charming. Vocalists are just not allowed to have their own voice now with auto-tune. We had it really good in 2013. Playing it now it still gives me chills, its production is just so great..

I wanted to comment on Echosmith and their song "Cool Kids". The reason that band took off was because of the lead singer, Sydney. If you think about the band's construction, a bunch of young siblings, performing harmless safe 80's inspired indie pop rock capitalizing on 80's music nostalgia even a decade ago, let alone still going strong today. They seemed to get attention from Taylor Swift who would then kinda rip off the idea for her album 1989 to go down an 80's inspired direction. The song Cool Kids is very safe, sterile, take on 80's influenced music and is nothing offensive but nothing that great either...the best part of the song is the synth hook that is not even used that often in the song overall. I remember I saw them perform this song live on a late night talk show back then... coulda been COnan or Leno, don't remember which...but I remember watching the other members of the band playing their instruments as if I was watching an Arcade Fire performance from the early 00's with their theatrics to play them in a non-traditional way but in a sense they were still ripping off another Indie rock artist's performance. This band felt incredibly generic and put together like an industry plant to me. I don't hate this band or their song, but it doesn't surprise me they didn't make much else as popular as that one song.

I feel a little bit bad for the brother for getting dogpiled on due to him acting unintentionally creepy towards Travis Barker's daughter. When you were talking about those Brand New lyrics it made me think of how certain parts of the AFI fan base seemed taken aback by Davey Havok and his inverted cross necklace and jacket on the Burials album cycle. "Me vs Maradona vs Elvis" is about Lacey picking up a woman at a bar and lying to her about the way that he feels to get in her pants and not caring that he is gonna hurt her. Is it gross? Yeah. That is kinda the point though. It is an unflinching look at Lacey's dependecy on sex and his dishonest approach to getting into this woman's pants. Degausser touches on this as well.

Yeah, you nailed it dude. People who probably listened to the song once put it in articles as Jesse's confession, but seem to miss the point of the song. And people always forget about the connection to MVMVE and Sic Transit Gloria.

I'm actually on the other side when it comes to Echosmith. "Cool Kids" may be a bit on the side of cringe lyrically, but has one thing all other songs I heard from them don't have: genuine hooks. Those sort-of tinkerbell sounds which permeate the song are a case in point. And the chorus, of course, gets stuck in your head the minute you hear it. Their failed follow-up, "Bright", is exactly what I was talking about when it comes to their other songs: it dissolves into thin air and you never want to seek it out again. It doesn't even work very well as background music, if you ask me. "Daughters"! Now that's the definition of a lyrically convoluted song, if ever there was one.

I feel the opposite. I think "Bright" is significantly better. It's really relaxing to me and always put me at ease. It's a bit interesting because I was not following pop music in 2014-2015, so I actually never had heard "Cool Kids" back then, but I do remember hearing "Bright" a lot at my local diner, so it does remind me a bit of that rough time for me (nor do I really think of it as a failed follow up). The imagery is a bit played out (how many different tracks have been about "the stars"?), but still very effective, kind of like a 2010s version of "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer. In general I like any kind of song I can lie in bed, stare at the ceiling, and daydream to. Though I will admit, I don't go out of my way to listen to "Bright" too much because I have noticed every time it has come on I've been met with some really bad news the next day. It's cursed I tell you lol.

Wrong Way shouldn't really be on this list imo. The story goes that she gets pimped out at 14yo but doesn't necessarily mean she's 14yo when the narrator meets her, its also not stated how old the narrator is. My interpretation was that they were similar in age, mid-late teens and he's trying to save her from her horrible life but feels guilty when he has a moment where he objectifies her himself. Its also apparently about a 16yo girl they knew in real life when they were also 16yo.

Can you really say that any of Kid Rock's songs were made to hold up well? Most of them were rotten as soon as they were conceived. They're low hanging fruit for any worst list. "Dig Down" gave the impression that Muse was running out of ideas, which is something a lead single should NEVER do. I heard it and said "Isn't this just 'Madness' all over again?" It probably would have been great if it came out a decade earlier... A story regarding "Cool Kids" - that song came out around the exact time I started high school. It was stressful at first because it was a new school with a lot of kids I never met before, and one of my biggest fears was "not fitting in" with everyone else. I'd hear that song on the bus ride home and it became a "theme song" of sorts for my freshman experiences, which ended up being not being so bad after all. Maybe I'm the only one who could find meaning in this song, but I hear it now and I feel nostalgic more than anything else.

Something ironic about Kid Rock having a song in which he says don’t tell me how to live when his whole career the industry has been telling him what to record. Early 90s…corny white rappers like Vanilla Ice are in, he makes a rap album. Late 90s, nu metal is in…better go and assemble a band! A few after that…nu metal no longer en vogue well better quickly switch up the sound again and give Sheryl Crow a call. Modern day…there’s people out there who are of certain political affiliation that can fall for the “quarter out of the ear trick” better become their leader!!!

Okay yeah finished that part and man referring to their song Date Rope that way doesn’t really get into what that song is . Like this whole clip part you ran through fast as possible to make your point , don’t think it was fair sublime cos people who never heard of them would think they are weirdos with your description : I like ya channel but yeah disappointing how uncautious you were rushing through it . That song wrong way doesn’t define who they are and date rope is a feminist song if you listen to it for real. I’m sure you did years ago / but the way you framed it was super disingenuous

I'm not exaggerating. You've heard of differing opinions, yeah? I'm glad you love it. I hate it, both opinions are valid!
