My dad worked there for years. I was in my senior year of high school when it came down. It was a landmark and now they have a dump in its place

EM Pinball I worked on the dock from late 92 till early 98. I loved that place,I used to have to go in the basement and secure it be fore closing and I found a 1912 dime and still have it today.

Thanks for sharing this. Was thinking about the old store and decided to do a search. I grew up in the shadow of that place in the '60's. It was massive. In its' heyday it teemed with life. The tower alone was 250 feet high. How I miss it.

+Scott Wasescha I'm from St Cloud, but 3-4 times year in the late 60's and early 70's we'd go down to shop at old Monky Ward's. It was a great adventure, and yes, it was always crowded. When I lived in Minneapolis in the 80's I would go there sometimes, crowds were thinner, but it still showed some bustle. Glad I was out of state when it finally closed up and came down. Too bad they couldn't have saved at least the original building the way they saved the old Sears store on Lake St.

My dad was the manager of the MW store in Hastings for many years. He had a sales meeting every Friday morning at this store location. During my summer vacation from school I would often accompany him and wander the store while he was in meetings. Great memories.

Good ol days. Our Montgomery Wards was located in our mall. That was demolished and a huge Wal-Mart store was built in its place. I miss the mall at Christmas time. It was decorated all over and even had a kid train.

When I visited the Twin Cities in June of 2009.I didn't even know about old Wards being imploded & torn down😢been gone from Mpls St.Paul for 28 years since May 15,1981 when me & my parents who are both deceased moved to Baltimore Md in a big U Haul 24"truck with Dad,s 1968 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser Station wagon towed to the back.Painful memory leaving my 1st childhood home I knew for my 2nd childhood home Baltimore Md which turned out to be beneficial on my end years later.

Worked at a MW store in Northern California back in the 80s. First few years were pretty good, then they changed store managers and the new one was a bean counting little wimp who started screwing the people working there. When I left I actually gave thought to meeting the little A-Hole in the parking lot for a "discussion". He was lucky I decided not to knock him into the next month !

Back in the Late 70's Mobil Oil bought controlling interest in Montgomery Ward and in 1979 my wife and I purchased a franchise. Little did we know that the new president (Bernie Brennan) who was allegedly a high level employee of Mobil was actually one of the partners of the parent company; Maxxon Holding which owned Mobil, Sears, Whirlpool and Greenwood Federal Bank. Their plan in 1976 was to start closing stores in 1985 in lieu of Direct Marketing Catalogs, "800" telephone numbers and credit cards. The Federal Class Action suit brought by the 850 privately owned Catalog Agencies really upset the apple cart for the Brennan Brothers. They pimped out their investors and all of their customers.
