So fun to hear about all of the horror and spooky reads. Sounds like a really great reading month!

YES omg such a good point about Schrader Chord that it just felt like a family drama and not a horror! I've seen some reviews on goodreads praise it so much and it makes me wonder if I just missed something but the focus of the book was just so clunky and clumsy to me and I couldn't get past the beginning! 😅 The Bellwood game really looks so entrancing!!!! I especially want to read it to experience the autumnal vibes! 🍂🍁🍂❤️ That's so frustrating about curious tides that it seems like lots of books call themselves dark academia and there's no academics 😅 Okay I'm convinced to give starling house a try!!! I put a hold on it at my library!!!

You know, I wonder if Schrader’s Chord attempted what Starling House achieved, like it wanted to be a more accessible horror book but didn’t get there. I’m so excited to hear your thoughts on Starling House! I won’t vouch for the actual prose (Harrow is still a lil clunky) but in a sea of DNFs I finished Starling House with a positive feeling. One day I’ll pour myself a glass of wine and film a rant video about dark academia. These days I’m calling a lot of “dark academia” books campus thrillers or academic thrillers. Part of me thinks that the dark academia label was originally a marketing trick to attract thriller readers to certain fantasy or litfic books. But yeah, Curious Tides could have been really cool (magic college, seaside setting, magic cave) but the writing and story weren’t great. Bellwoods Game really should be a future classic and I hope it catches on once the paperback comes out. I know you’re getting into spooky middle grade and I think you’d have a great time with this one! Though I probably wouldn’t recommend being like me and buying the hardcover unseen lol. Thanks for watching and chatting! I can’t believe it’s almost time to put together our year-end bests and worsts!! 🙀🙀🙀🌺💜🍂👻💀💀💀🎃🎃💀👻🍂🍂💜🌺🌺🌺

You had such a great reading month!! Incredible. A warning about swans sounds incredible, it's amazing when you find yourself thinking about a book many days after you've read it. I never read the virgin suicides but hearing you talk about it reminded me that I should!!

Thanks, it really did end up being a great reading month! A Warning About Swans is truly a special book and the author has two new ones out next year! The Virgin Suicides is a little slow but very short, and obviously it’s in paperback lol. Thanks for watching!! 🌺💜💜💜👻

A Warning About Swans sounds so beautiful! 😩 I really want to read The Virgin Suicides and The Haunting of Hill house! I have a difficult time reading classics so that's why I haven't yet 😭. I know I'm missing out!! I love that you DNF'd so many books and still got lots of reading done!! 👏👏

A Warning About Swans is SO good and it’s written as poetry so it’s shorter than it looks. It’s definitely not easy getting into classics! The Virgin Suicides is a little slow but it’s from 1993 so the language is familiar. Tbh you could always ease into classics with children’s books - Little House, Wrinkle in Time, Phantom Tollbooth, Narnia. And thanks! Lately I like DNFing because it’s getting books off my tbr lol! 💜👻🌺💀🍂🍂🍂

What a bummer about Schrader’s Cord. Reminds me of All Hollows 😒 And I loved the virgin suicides as a high schooler. I was OBSESSED with the Sofia Coppola movie during my tumblr era 🤪

Schrader’s Chord was just a boring lit fic family drama! I wanted it to be about playing Led Zeppelin records backwards and getting possessed, or whatever old ppl thought kids were doing in the 70s. I still haven’t seen the Virgin Suicides movie 🤦🏻♀️ I might finally watch it this weekend! Thanks for watching!! 💜🍂👻🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺

Oh, Alone with you in the ether is a hard DNF for me, I was so disappointed there was nothing regarding time travel except few thoughts shared from one of the characters. It was pretty melodramatic for me. 😓

It definitely wasn’t an easy read! I basically read 20 pages a day and then switched to something else.

Thank you! I’m definitely gearing up to come back soon! I can’t stay up reading super late like I used to and I’m coming to terms with not getting through as many books, and always refining how I choose them!
