OMG..I remember this like it was yesterday..I cant think of anything that disappointed me so much as to the outcome of that game...20/20 hindsight...I never understood why they took Burris out in the first place...dude was pitching a hell f a game..should've left him in to finish the game...I was in 9th grade at the time..and I remember when we swiched classes from 5th period to 6th period..my buddy telling me the awful news..man..I was crushed...((

Another of the great what ifs in baseball history. What if the Expos had won and made the World Series. What if they won it in 1994 as they surely would have. Would the Expos have got a new stadium and stayed in Montreal?

The homerun reminds me of the Mike Scioscia home run against Dwight Gooden in game 5 of the 88 playoffs against the Mets

2nd greatest Rick Monday moment in Dodger history. His first was when he wasn't even a Dodger, but a Cub. Visiting LA, a future Obama supporter was burning a flag. Monday came out and swooped it up, and since then he's been popular in LA ever since. Even the eventual pennant-winning home run shown here did not override that moment from before.

I wished that someone erased this clip because it's the closest we ever came of going to the world series.We had such a great team that year.

Steve Rogers is the perfect example of why you should never put in a starting pitcher in the 9th inning. Same thing happened to John Lackey earlier in this year’s playoffs (2017) VS the Dodgers.

leohabs 077 Difference is the Expos were a better team than dodgers back then and cubs weren’t better last year as now lots of improvements to be as an NL favorite to the WS.

Depends on many factors like how good your bullpen is, who is at the plate, and how dominant the starter is late in the game.

This was the National League Championship Series, not the National League Division Series.
@secondguess3128
4 жыл бұрын
You are correct, but the banner DOES signify victory in a Division Series (you'll notice it specifies "National League Eastern Division"). A players' strike split the 1981 season in two, so all divisions had 1st-half and 2nd-half winners -- who played best-of-5 series to advance to the Championship Series. Montreal defeated Philadelphia in the opening round, while L.A. knocked off Houston.

Expos should be in Buffalo. They would be if the Canadian government hadn't bailed them out over 20 years ago, but then they went broke again and moved to D.C. Bob Rich had a $90 million deal and a new ballpark but the Canadian government got in the way. It will always leave bile in my throat. So close, but yet so far. No major league baseball in Buffalo, ever.

William Hoffman Good. Fuck Buffalo.

@William Hoffman: Not exactly -- the Canadian government put up exactly nothing to save the Expos in 1990. The city of Montreal and province of Quebec contributed about one-third of the $100-million sale price -- the buyers were a consortium of local, mostly corporate interests. Outgoing owner Charles Bronfman wanted desperately to keep the team in Montreal -- he had the backing of commissioner Fay Vincent -- so relocation was a last resort. Even then, a Miami group was offering $135 million. Buffalo was never really "so close."

Way to go expos Steve Rogers ! Threw a pitch right over the plate that Monday crushed ! Why Fanning didn't bring in the left handed Bill Lee to pitch to him defies all logic.
