His brother John is/was in the military. Blackwater was advertising itself to corporations with businesses abroad and those targeted by terrorism at this time. As the guy running the family business I think he understood the implications.

Special operations get a pass (to a point) when it comes to things like regulation haircuts and facial hair. It makes it easier to approach indigenous peoples wherever they go believe it or not. And it makes it easier for them to blend in if need be. A person with a high and tight hair cut will stick out like a sore thumb.

I think this was his first time on Earth. Midway, where he and Teal'c went to the SGC, was right at the end of Season 4. And he stayed with the Athosians when the Ancients returned for half an episode in Season 3. There were more times in Season 5 though, like the rogue Replicators and obviously the finale.

Nor do any of the other branches but all four, five counting the CG use the term freely to denote some part of their operation without having to get into specifics. I always understood it for use when describing operations to non-military folk.

@@ReginaldJKornblow This. While a member of the airforce talking to another member would refer to a specific unit by the correct designation, most civilians don't really know the difference. For example, most people don't know the difference between a fire-team, squad, or platoon. They'll recognize things like division or army, but anything smaller than that, it's a wash.

@@Tank50us unit is short hand. the Air Force does have MPs and ground based specialties. The Air Force was the first branch to get ahold of AR-15s yes AR-15s, M16 is a US military designation that came about in 1961 and the rifle was called the AR-15 when it was built back in 1959
@Tank50us

@@toomanyaccounts at the time it was still a prototype, albeit one with in a preproduction phase of development. When the changes were made, and it became formally adopted, it became the M16. Changes that, for the most part, remained unique to the M16 (such as select fire capability) until the 80s when further restrictions were placed on civil firearms and the AR-15 we know today began production. Although for the most part the AR hasn't seen many changes since it's inception. That being said, yeah, Unit is just military shorthand, and just means an organized military group. So even Militias count
@toomanyaccounts

@@Tank50us AR-15s from the start had select fire capability. the civ semi auto AR-15 didn't come until after the M16 and had a five round mag. In Vietnam the M16 later had full auto removed and burst fire put in and the 20 round mag was changed to 30. Bother to learn real history rather then repeat the Fudd you just did. AR-15s were sold to police and military forces and the only way civs could get could get them was through the NFA. AR stands for Armalite Rifle. Yes there was an AR-14 and it was a prototype rifle that if went to production would be for hunting and would be semi auto only.
