The ref had pulled the game up and was obviously reaching into her pocket to start handing out cards. She had taken control of it immediately. At that stage the players also stopped doing anything. Pity the parents couldn't show the same level of maturity as the kids.

@Caleb Berhanu Then you're obviously part of the problem. The ref handled it and there was no need for anyone to go onto the field. If the player is injured it is up to the coach to go and deal with it. Not a parent.

The only person who was looking to escalate hits was the parent who went onto the field.

Mark Oster How are you my comment is never to downtalk officials as I am one myself just to see what can be fine tuned or worked as i learn something every time in this game plus I show these videos to younger refs I mentor.... You right but it seemed like he wasn't upset about that, he might have gone after the one player for just coming in late and possibly stepping on him. This whole incident could've been easily avoided, she could work on her game management (the parent she can't control but her management will prevent them acting the way that parent did). Her foul recognition looked off, I may be wrong but from late whistle seemed like she wasn't going to call the original clip by red player. Did she look over to AR to get a yes or no? She could work a little more on her whistle the tone says a lot in distinguishing severity of fouls. Lets players and parents both know you are attentive to the game and are aware of players behavior. Her nonchalant attitude with the late whislte and body language would have any parent thinking the ref just doesn't wanna be here, doesnt care, or their kids safety isn't in the best capable hands. I'm not trying to downtalk her at all because to get on that field takes guts with the way parents and coaches are nowadays. Sad how so many young refs are turned away by parents like this and you put that solely on assignors not matching up refs with their level of officiating. For those that have a serious shortage press on but if you are getting games that you know you can't handle this will more than likely occur.

Something to remember for people commenting on the ref - she's a kid. Yup, could have done better, but she's in a learning experience just like the players. Most high level refs I know of have blown games and situations much worse than this. The reality that players, coaches, and parents don't understand is that we learn by mistakes; and having people charge in like that just makes the ref want to quit, which depletes yet another option. Serious kudos to far side AR - he really seemed to salvage the situation.

Also, like I said if I were the ref on that game I would have sent the dad off for coming at me instead of tending to his child. The permission to enter the field is not to tell me what you think I am doing wrong. Not to mention most parents are ignorant of the laws of the game and just scream from emotion. This is the result of the most common problem I see with young referees, which is foul identification and timing. There is a clear foul and the white player goes to the ground, if she had acted quickly with a loud whistle, getting close to the play, the play would have stopped, the white player would feel protected and the retaliation would not likely happen. There is a shortage of referees, but the assignor needs to know the level of the game and who can handle it.

Everyone wants games with more experienced referees. You can't get a referee with a 300 game count when you walk out of the field on them in their first 10 games. It looks like about a 16 year old girl working a U12 match. There is nothing wrong with the level of assignment. She obviously had at least 1 more experienced AR to bail her out since she's newer. Fouls will be missed. That's not justification for this aftermath. This is more of a coaching and parent problem for the player to believe that behavior is acceptable than it is a referee problem.

Mike Mcintyre what an absolutely irrelevant point to make. Firstly my point is that the ref may have missed the initial contact. But you can't retaliate in the game or football and not get a red. Where the ref was placed she could not have seen the sneaky kick in the back. Lashing out like he did doesn't make him a hero. In the teams I coach and my colleagues coach he would have been subbed for the retaliation. Actually every coach in our league would have done that. Boy needs to learn!

It seems clear that the young referee was sending white #11 off when the parent charged the field - she was working to separate him from the problem area first, as is correct. That's about the only thing that was correct. She was not actively moving, she doesn't seem to have recognized the initial trip, and she was very late and weak with the whistle once Red #17 started the trouble. YC's for Red #23 (initial trip) and YC or maybe RC for Red #17 - the little shit who started the trouble, and then clutched and rolled like a pro when White #11 retaliated against him. And as appears to have been done here, the parent was/should have been told to leave the field - and a post-match report submitted for possible further action by league. Restart: DFK for white at the spot Red #23 tripped him. Young Referee: THIS is why you stay attentive and active during play - a quick, firm whistle may well have prevented the stuff following the trip. I used to mentor young referees, and remember my early days as a ref, making mistakes like this. When you're not yet sure just how to officiate properly, this is a pretty normal outcome. Here's hoping the fast acting AR also was a good mentor for the young CR, and helped her understand what she SHOULD have done (in a constructive manner - as I'm sure he would have done, he was clearly being very protective of her here).

The "little shit" who started the trouble actually didn't start the problem. What you and 98% of the commenters accidentally or intentionally missed was that #11 in white punched a red kid in the gonads at 0:23/0:24

CR could have been a little quicker with the whistle in this case, especially with the kid on the ground and the dangerous play. Great job by the male AR to try and get some order restored. Also, what is really telling is how the white team players have to come over and to settle down the parents. Also looks like the white team coach also has words with his parents to try to settle them down, so nice job by the coach. I am guessing that the parent that ran onto the field was ejected from the match? If not, he should have been. Unless beckoned on by the CR, the red team coaches have no business being on the field, especially when there is a young CR. Again, nice job by the AR to get them off the field. Personally, I would have tossed one. Like I said, there was no need for them to be out there. Doesn't really appear that they want an explanation since they do all the talking. Yellow for USB for the kid in red that started it, Red for violent conduct for the kid in white. Should be a fun report to fill out.

The kid in red ran 10 feet to kick a player in the ground,he got what he deserved, the only thing the kid in white did wrong is he kicked him when the reff was looking.

Agree. My son plays this age. If he stepped on a kid, he'd apologize or be grounded. If he kicked a kid, he'd be living on his own.

@Fred Clause, Your kid is probably the one who gets made fun of and bullied and ends up hanging himself because he too afraid to stand up for himself.

"Wa....waaaa....waaaa"....he got kicked in the shin and he acted like he got shot. Soccer fans can't figure out why they are laughed at by most here in the US. THAT is why.

I hate people like you. Can’t see that soccer is growing to be more and more popular in America and will soon be number 3 (over baseball). In regards to your argument about the “dive” these look to be 13 year old kids. He got kicked hard in the knee with cleats. Of course he is going to fall over crying. I bet if a football player kicked another he would fall over grabbing his knee too.

Most people in the US do not laugh at soccer fans or fans of any other sport. Most people realize we are free to watch whatever sport we want without dolts like you being judgmental for no reason. If you can't be an athlete try to be an athletic supporter.
