An incredibly sad song for me, conjures up visions of Findhorn and very boring cheap family holidays there in the late 60's early 70's - The shadow of the cold war hanging in the background, with the beach, bingo and those penny arcade places. But you know, compared to today, give me back that world ..

Hits the spot (for me) about being lonely, lost loves, and how the world might as well end without love. I was a teenager when this first came out and it's so emotional looking back at the journey and faces gone past. Finding a good person you can trust to share your life with is the most beautiful thing you can discover in life. I think.

You're so right. This reminds me of when I was 16 in Normandy, France as an exchange student. It was a small seaside beach full of Frenchies on Summer Holiday. Life was all around but no one for me to talk to-saw like a good American I bought a 6 pack of Kronenbourg Bier and went up on top of the channel cliffs and pounded those on top of the Nazi bunkers, then down to la plage to check out the topless teenage girls. Wasn't so bad!

+Joshua Hugo This song embodies that little village and being far from home. It was called Les Petites Dalles, "The Little Flagstones" and I lived with a gracious French famille, Les Varennes. I couldn't speak French for merd when I got there but when I left I could Parle Francais.

When this song came out it just seemed like a run of the mill good song Now I realise it's one of the all time classics. Somehow Morrisey can make you sad, nostalgic but for some reason leave you with a real uplifting joy for life. He brings the real emotion that only a real artist can bring to his craft. The look on thats girls face at 1:22 says it far better than I ever could.
