I remember when this was being filmed in Phoenix. The only station we had that played Morrissey was KUKQ 1060 AM. Fans were calling into the station after seeing him. They were exciting and some were eve crying.

This song is a perfect example of why Morrissey is so easy to resonate with. The lyrics are so simple and clean-cut, yet they uniquely describe a feeling that (nearly) everyone has felt at least once in their lives. I think this is why his fanbase is so devout.

This 30+ year old music video is a wonderful nineties time capsule. The black and white photography and interesting motel landscapes really capture a part of Americana that is slowly disappearing. Amazing to realize that Morrissey's 35 year solo career has lasted 7 times longer than the 5 years that The Smiths were in existence. I've been a fan of The Smiths and Morrissey since 1986. Long live Morrissey!

This video was shot in Phoenix, Arizona when it was still a smaller city. It was shot in black and white, during an overcast day. Phoenix is now the 5th largest city in America - today, Phoenix has about 1,700,000 people and there are over 5,000,000 in the metro. All of those seedy motels in the video that were common mainstays from the 1950's through the late-1980's; succumbed to prostitution and other vices and were torn down in the 1990's. Today they are all multi-story, upper end apartments and commercial business establishments. It was a cool video though....a blast from the past. He was still very young, like he had just left the Smiths a few years prior.
