I first got the 16 and enjoyed it, however I thought it was overpriced. Got the 12 next and the nose blew me away, sweet red apples. Really nice, better than the 16 imo. The 12 will be one of those that will always be on my shelf together with the bunnahabhain 12.

I agree with Whisky Notes. The 12 costs around £50 a bottle in the uk and beats the others hands down for value and for flavour.

I think Sherry is like Peat, in that folks will gravitate towards a particular brand depending on personal tastes. My preference for sherry is the Glendronach style (15 or older). The younger styles for me perhaps the Bunnahabhain 12 and Glenfarclas 12.

Never tried either of these, and considering the price, likely won't ever I have the G&M 15yo Mortlach from Alberta ($90 I believe). You ever tried that? I get a lot of savory spice notes on that one, which makes it quite unique in a good way. Not a beginner whisky even at 43abv. Thanks for your awesome content and the kickboxing virtual classes during this time. Cheers Rob

I had a 3cl dram of the 20 last year and was seriously unimpressed. I did, however recently take advantage of deals on the GoT bottlings to get the Six Kingdoms Mortlach 15 for £60, which I thought a fair price, and it is pretty good. Not worth full retail price but £60 was fair

The 20 has been at Costco now for a real long time price is the low 200's . I think you are better off with the indy bottlers when it comes to Mortlach. Nice review Rob, Stay healthy and stay safe.

Hey Rob, great head to head, thanks for posting, we could all use some extra reviews right now. Cooped up in Mtl, working from home, this is not fun for anyone, but necessary. I've had a couple of bottles of the Mortlach 12, very enjoyable; I particularly like the cured meat character of Mortlach, it's quite unique. Cheers, and stay safe.

Nice review Rob. Have you had the 12 ? It is really solid and also sherry/bourbon cask matured. Have had the 16 and 12 and while the 16 is very good prefer the 12 especially when considering the price. The boxes and bottles are really fancy so would be a impressive looking gift. Cheers

Mortlach is 2.81 because it’s distilled 2 times and then part of it distilled again, which in average 2.81, very weird.

@@Watchman999 The 18 Glen over the 21 Dronach? Wow. I’ve had the 18 Glen. I found it to be a high quality , elegant sherried scotch. I’ve also had the old 15 Dronach and the 18. For me, the 15 was the best. Powerful beast of a sherry. The 18 had more depth, like on the nose and powdered cocoa. The Mortlach just had me intrigued. But seems like I’d do better for about the same money to get another 18 Glen. Btw. I own but haven’t opened the 21 Glengoyne. For a Special occasion.

Color added should be illegal. Just say it is added, vs when it's not. It's a chemical, not a cooked down sugar. Back in the day it was treacle, or sinamar.
