The beautiful thing about the Carters.. was that they were true American Originals.. they didn't copy anyone else's style.. there was no one else to copy.

Mother Maybelle is playing this song out of an F position. Not something most country musicians often do; look how easy she gets that B-flat chord. They don't feature her guitar on this number but she still amazes me.

I think that Anita definitely had the best voice and was the prettiest, but you can't deny that June was the true showman of the group. June was pretty, she could sing, dance, and she was very funny. She was an entertainer by all means of the definition and she had the whole package. June had spunk and charisma and was truly a great entertainer. God bless Momma Maybelle, Helen, June, Anita, and may they all rest in peace. I am in love with Anita though and I wish that I could find a woman like her to give my all to. Great video and thank you for sharing.

June was quoted as saying besides having the most beautiful voice of all the country singers that Anita was the best stand up bass player she ever played with . And June saw a lot of them. June's nickname was June "bug" .

anita was a GREAT bass player chet atkins used her as a session musician on many of his classic instrumentals, which tells you how good she was because he was THE GOD of the nashville recording studios and could have had anybody he wanted incredibly beautiful, an even better singer, and shes slaving away buried in a recording studio playing bass on instrumentals its comical. but i understand any excuse to have anita carter around, you gotta take

rockhard You're right about that, my mom was born the same year as Anita 1933 and my mom lived on a farm in southeast Missouri. They only had a radio in the late 40's and most of the 50s..my mom and her sisters said Anita had the most beautiful voice they heard. Anita did sing a lot of solo songs while playing the bass and a lot of duets with Helen. The trio of Helen, Anita and Mother Maybelle made listening to hymns fantastic. I bought all the Carter Sisters with MM and Chet Atkins circa 1949/50 and they are fantastic. The talent level of all of them is really entertaining. I'm addicted to listening to them.

+rockhard I have since traded for the "unedited" Radiozark recordings from their 1949 Springfield radio shows. The cds that are for sale commercially are edited in England. They cut out a lot of great songs especially some solo's by Anita. If you love Anita's voice, they are a great find. She sings the only version of a song she wrote called "Blue Skies and Sunshine" They did record this song on RCA Victor but Helen sings harmony vocals on the RCA Victor 78. Anita sings solo on the unedited version. She also sings some great hymns solo like "Roll me Over the Tide", just great stuff for a 16 year old. Helen had a great voice as well and they sing more duets. Chet and the Girls do some songs that I never heard that are so special. The songs cut out were only heard by their radio show fans in 1949. Fantastic group with the most talent ever by 5 individuals in one band.. Find me on Facebook Anthony Lupo and check my You Tube video channel for updated videos. I am doing videos of a lot the unedited songs especially the ones Helen and Anita sing in.
