@@ChaseBarron thanks, I guess what it means from my point of view is it's easy for me to fall into the trap of obsessing about what I'm not achieving when I have already achieved so much already. I find if I look back on who I was and where I am now that helps me find the motivation to keep moving forward and achieve the consistency you mentioned.

This is so true! You may not have motivation to work out today, but you have motivation to be fit/healthy/shredded/beautiful/strong/fast in general. Consistency may not be sexy but the results are! 🎙 After many physical and mental health struggles during the lockdown, I finally decided to exercise every day in November 2020 (because who needs the new year for resolutions) and haven’t missed a day since. This led to some frantic pushups and squats at 11:40pm and some runs in the rain but is actually so worth it because I feel better and have more energy *all the time*. Don't wait til Monday, don’t wait til the next month, don’t even wait til tomorrow, and you don’t have to go big every day. Set achievable goals and after you’ve done them for a few weeks and it feels easy, make it a bit more challenging.

Hello Chase and Maebell 🐶, 🎙 congratulations again for this new adventure with the podcast. I would like to be part of it at some point 🤓 It feels so good when you finish or do something even when there's no motivation. Definitely makes you learn more about yourself 🤗💪🏼👌🏼. This time I would like to share a little from James Clear - Atomic Habits "Where to focus: For the beginner, execution. For the intermediate, strategy. For the expert, mindset." And also from Viktor Frankl " Betweeen stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response" Have a great weekend Chase and Maebell 😊🐶!

This is something I learnt for myself over my recent everyday running challenge. My main purpose for it was actually to train motivation. By the time I developed debilitating shin splints, consistency *was* my motivation and it felt like no reason was good enough to stop, even an injury. (I eventually did stop for full recovery but fueled that consistency into walks/pull-ups.) Consistency is addictive. Make it a challenge and before you know it, you’ll struggle without. 🎙

The same thing happened to me the other day, Chase. I woke up a bit later the other day and I knew I wasn't going to have enough to go to the gym before going to work. But I knew that consistency is the key, so I went to work earlier so I could get off work earlier and then go to the gym on time. Consistency is our motivation.

I do think motivation is important in that it needs to match my values or else I'll never make it past day two of a routine, learned that the hard way hundreds of times now (adhd-ite here!). Of course I also agree that consistency is essential for results, given that other stuff is in check. That's probably why I wasn't able to work out from home until I realized I had to for my mental health as I've had anxiety around it previously. It's still limited but I do what I can. Thanks for keeping it in perspective :)

This is such a good message! I struggle with mental health a lot, and I've recently been going through a depressive episode, and I try to make myself workout every day at least to a small extent. Even if I just do a super small workout of just a few sets, I still feel proud that I've made myself do it

Motivation is not a mandatory prerequisite for consistency. Motivation is helpful, but not necessary. When it comes, embrace it. When it doesn't, remember it.
@claricestreets984

I see this as the difference between “in the moment” impetus vs “big picture” motivation. No question consistency is key, but it’s not possible without the underlying motivation to be consistent. I have thought about this a lot, and used this big picture motivation to lose 50 pounds, get sober from a place of daily drunkenness, and train for and complete an Iron man triathlon. Can’t have long term consistency without deep motivation.

@@claricestreets984 Very true. I'd almost refer to that "deep motivation" that you're talking about as your "life values".

Almost every motivation video or content is absolutely useless. In short, stop wasting time for motivation to hit you, because it won't. Even if it does on rare occasions, an action leading it is unlikely. So what to focus on ? Not on your feelings. Just Action. Take the next step. Next smallest step. That is unfortunately the only message of evey motivation video or content.
