(REVISED 2/9/24)
Muriel (Magee) Farrington, now 82, has led a pretty interesting life. At 58, the South Windsor divorcee took up motorcycle-riding and never stopped. She logged nearly 425,000 miles (she fell short by 40 miles) on her BMW motorcycles traveling up and down the eastern coastline of the United States and across the country. But with a recent diagnosis of idiopathic interstitial lung disease Farrington has been under hospice care for the past month.
Doctors have given her six to 12 months to live. A recent phone call with Farrington at her White River Junction home in Vermont, the upbeat Farrington said she's at peace - and in no pain. For the past two weeks she's been surrounded by the things she loves: her family, friends and her two cats Frosty and Frisky. She uses oxygen, calling it her new walking "dog," Oxy. She spends her days "sorting and planning," she said. She still writes the newsletter for the local chapter of the BMW club. And she has hopes of flying to Redmond, Oregon, to participate in a motorcycle rally in June.
She welcomes all positive and loving thoughts - adding "no pity parties allowed."
"I have had one hell of a life and I've lived it to the fullest," she said recently.
In this 20-minute video recorded two years ago Farrington talked about growing up in South Windsor, the influence of her family, life as a mother and as a divorcee and advice for aging senior citizens.
