Go and get yourself a shrinker stretcher. When you step rolled the cowl the puckers are extra metal. You have to either shrink or stretch those to tighten up that lip. Harbor freight and Eastwood sell them. You'll use them on the rest of the body. Check out Lazze KZitem channel for more information

Quick Tip on operating Taps in tight areas- You can go thru your 1/4" drive 12-point sockets and find one that fits the 4 point square drive on your Threading tap and drive them in and out quickly with a 1/4 ratchet handle, it's usually several sizes off from what the wrench size would be for the tap, so if a 5/16 open-end wrench fits the tap, then 2 or 3 sizes different in 12 point socket will fit it also

Small setbacks but with the typical Macro Machines perseverance you can overcome them. The painters tape did the job. Looks like the next tool to acquire/build will be a shrinker/stretcher so you can shrink that inner lip when you step roll a lip around a curve. It is great to see your progress and it is clear that you are continually learning and improving your skills and knowledge. Good thing you had help with the roller but if you didn’t we’d probably just see you make a video of you converting the manual roller to a power roller with a foot pedal control. 😉

the beadroller is good enough for the job , a good upgrade is to motorize it so you can guide the piece and hold it steady with two hands seen them use different motors for it but i think the winch motor running a small block chevy camdrive chain is eaziest as it allready made to go forward and reverse , no chance on regulating the speed though youre doing a great job and a lot of the ideas i had on reducing rattling and stuff like that you allready thought off and mentioned in the video , you can get the rest of the wrinkles out with carefull use of a shrinker/stretcher tool (arc on the lower part of the step is smaller so the metal needs to shrink in on itself a little, mostly on the rounded corners) probably a nice idea is to gleu a leather band on top of the step before putting the cowl over it , that should reduse the scraping of metal on metal you can roll the edge of the cowl down a little and have it hook behind the leather strap preventing it from sliding back or forth and you can finetune the flush fit between the cowl and the hood by filing / sanding some of the thickness off the leather

Starting to look like a real car now. Testing the flange roller on a scrap piece was a smart idea. Nice illustration of why you should think about space for tools when positioning holes. (And what your fingers will hit if a tool slips. You don't seem to have any in there, but I swear some designers put sharp edges exactly where knuckles will go.) If you're going to do any more riveting, I'd suggest looking up "cleco". Clecos are to sheet metal what pins are to needlework. Any number of homebuilt aircraft videos will illustrate their use, (and other tips for working with sheet metal, especially aluminum).

Hi Vince,a query, look into corrosion caused by mounting 2 dissimilar metalsMany years ago I had an aluminium rain water tank connected to my house with a corrugated iron / steel roof the electrolysis caused the tank to develop holes quickly. Look into sacrificial anodes or maybe just a rubber insulating barrierbetween metals would be enough ? Are you making the leather hood tie down straps yourself ?It's easy enough to do. Brilliant work as usual Vince I'm thoroughly enjoying the build process! Tony from Western Australia

I’m impressed with the tools and skills you have. I know this is really late, but when using the bead roller, make multiple smaller increment passes. This will prevent the large deformation you got from doing it in one go. And if you work with sheet metal, you should consider using Gleeko Clamps.

I’m far from being the “safety police” but that rag on the bandsaw just says suck me in to the works.. maybe a piece of cardboard or just plain old duck tape in a few layers? It might have helped to relief cut those two bends and welded them back up after ,also how are you going to stop vibration between the hood panel and the cowl ? A deeper roll on the cowl and some kind of gasket ( leather or rubber ) would stop it . Can't wait to see how you do the front and backend , keep up the good work 👍🏼
@NathanielHatley

Unfortunately he can't do any welding on that panel because of the heat discoloration. I think he's going to have some leather attached to the underside of the hood to prevent vibration in the same manner that he's going to do between the cowl and the subframe.
