Thank you so much! I am going to adopt my older brother’s friend’s mourning gecko. He can no longer take care of them because he is too busy. I am so excited!

Hey man really great video. I really really want to get some animals for my bioactive terrarium, and I'm thinking these are the ones. I'm just a bit scared to get them, as I'm worried I don't know enough even though I've done a ton of research. I've got a mister, water pools, lots of hiding places, and a light, but is that enough?

These guys are very forgiving in minor mistakes to evironment, just keep their humidity and a good level. They have evolved to live all over the world and are hardy and breed quickly. Theyre a great starter lizard, and it sounds like you already have put more thought into taking care of them than most people do. You'll do fine - you got this!

Just started researching these geckos and wondered if they could eat Pangea instead of Rapashy?
@ItsAaronRose
4 ай бұрын
I would imagine theyre pretty much the same thing - full gecko diet. Repashy just seems to be more widely available here, but should be interchangeable.

So I’m getting ready to get some of these geckos and I’m wondering, what kind of lighting do I need? My room is warm during the summer and gets cold during the winter. Should I get heating pads?
@ItsAaronRose
4 күн бұрын
If it gets cold in the winter, I would definetly get some source of heat in order, but these animals are very easy to keep. They do well at room temperature (65-75), so assuming you can just turn on your heating, they may be fine without an additional heat source. They also do not techically require any special lighting, but should have a 12 hour day and night light cycle. Ive personally fou d that they seem to breed better when kept in a planted vivarium with good humidity, so in that case youd want UV - but more for the benefit of your plants than the geckos. General rule of thumb is that UV, if not essantial, can probably still provide benefits and make for a more natural environment.

Could you just have an ant colony and feed them that?
@ItsAaronRose

I dont see why you couldnt feed them ants, but I dont think those alone would provide a good balance of nutrition for them.

Hey man, you got any tips on avoiding them from getting out of hand, in the sense of keeping 3 and not having them reproduce too much, can you freeze the eggs or something? Will the mothers die of stress if they can’t find their eggs? Etc
@ItsAaronRose
6 ай бұрын
Not really sure how you would stop them from reproducing. I dont think theyre overly attached to their eggs, once they lay them they kinda just leave them to do their thing and hatch on their own, so I suppose you could remove them. A lot of people breed these as feeders for larger animals, so there is that option I suppose. If you didnt want to do that, I guess you could give them away? It takes awhile before you end up with a booming population though. Probably a few years really. Having an excessive amount is not an immediate problem, but probably something you should thinj about in the interest of being responsible.

I just got two hatchlings but one is a lot smaller then the other one. Is it possible for the bigger one to eat the smaller one at this age?
@ItsAaronRose
5 ай бұрын
Theyre really tiny when freshly hatched, but Ive never actually seen one eat another. Thats not to say Im 100% certain it isnt possible, but I dont think its likely. The bigger risk is just having the larger one bully the smaller one and nip at its tail. This isnt really something you can avoid though.. just give them ample space and lots of hiding spots. When you get to the eventual point that you have 20 of them in a tank, and more hatching all the time, youre not going to be able to constantly police their behaviour. Best you just learn now not to stress about it so much.

Why would you watch if you "hate" it? Pretty weird to watch a video of something you find disgusting and just make ignorant, rude comments about it to the creator who is passionate about these incredible and beautiful animals. Everyone else here loves these animals. They are not insects either. It is a reptile. Why are you so hate filled? Attitudes of hate and aggression towards our natural surroundings and creatures like these amazing little mourning geckos are exactly why the world is being destroyed. I don't know how you can hate something so beautiful. It says a lot about you.
