You might find this easier - put the samples as pads on a drum program. Just like on the octatrack, put a trig on the first beat of two/four bars. Make a new track for each sample. Now double your sequence four or five times. Now you have 64 bars. Now you can use track mutes (and record them) to bring tracks in and out of your sequence. You can also automate filter sweeps etc.
@TeftyMeems
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Harry! Yes, I’ve actually done it that way in the past. What’s nice about the clips is you can start and stop audio loops at each new measure. With the drum program method, the audio will play out it’s full length regardless of when the pad was muted. With clips, you can cut a loop half way through the audio. Although you could setup choke groups and “stop” pads on a drum program 🤔

I have the original mpc live. I find clips frustrating because they cutoff as you go to the next sequence. even if you repeat the same clip program. so I was thinking of in the sequence, making tracks 1+5 drums 2+6 bass, 3+7 keys1 and 4+8 keys# 2.. tracks 1-4 would be my main riff and 5-8 would be variations. since they would all be midi in those tracks it should not cut off notes. On each of 9-16 I would have different loops that I could bring in or out by muting. leave the cursor on the screen on the sequence field and use the +/- buttons to advance to the previous or next sequence. I was trying to control my arrangements with my left hand and play keys with my right

3 жыл бұрын
If I have something specific to make, or need freedom with the measures/timing, then MPC all the way. Octatrack excels at performing audio slices and loops, and manipulating them in real time. The realtime recording and fader are one of kind with the Octatrack. So if I want to mangle samples in realtime, Octatrack 👍

Hi Tefty, I recently watched your MPC one vs Mpc live 2 video, and I decide to change my mpc one to live2, but at the same time I found a second hand op-1 which is in reasonable price. the reason why I want op-1 is I think the plugins on mpc is not that good, and I think the synth on op-1 is very good to make non-sample based lofi music. At the same time, I really want a full portable mpc, although I already have external battery and speaker for my mpc one. Do you think I should trade my mpc one to live 2 or I just get that second hand op-1? thank you very much for the suggestion!
@TeftyMeems

Op1 100%. The Live 2 is great, but the Op1 adds a ton more sounds that you wouldn't have access to with another MPC. And you could always find another Live 2 at some point. Although, same goes for the OP1 as well 🤣
