I'm very happy that you addressed this topic as I personally think that gut health is important in proactively managing MS symptoms. So yes I do take a probiotic! Having said that, I'm not sure how it contributes to my overall well-being as I also have eliminated dairy and gluten from my diet. Also, as I have previously mentioned, I do "limited eat times" / intermittent fasting. All I can say is I live virtually symptom free.

I sure wish you could sit down for about a month and educate my neurologist! He doesn’t even know what an MS HUG is, or MANY of the other common MS symptoms. He was willing to MRI my brain but i had to argue with him to get him to do my cervical spine. New Mexico is a neurology desert and the VA doesn’t hire the best doctors so I’m stuck with the dude. But I’m sick of being reminded that he’s the doctor and I’m not, only to have to educate him about even doing an annual MRI or the basics of symptomology for the disease! Blessings sir and thanks for being willing to teach!

Keep dropping that knowledge. Started probiotics weeks ago. Seem 2 give me a regular bowl. I've always been healthy 4 the most part until MS diagnosis. Probiotics doesnt hurt. None believers of MS medications seem to think it almost a miracle supplement along w/ exercise. Dont know wanna have my own opinion on medication. I'll stop it if side effects are that poor. Believe MS is possibly brought on by stress. I look back & what I know now my MS came a time in my life when my mom passed job changes etc. I guess I wasn't as healthy as I thought. B4 MS I was checked 4everything. I mean everything. Nuroligist could not see lesions. They actually thought I was crazy needed 2 relax until my body finally gave out. I know my body something was wrong. Now since my diagnosis I'm finally starting 2 trust medical field. Just trying to understand & make sense. Example an ms patient says no more lesions on their MRI 4 5 yrs taking supplements changes to diet life style changes. They took medication but made it impossible 2 live day 2 day. Anyway guess I'll find out more knowledge about MS Medication etc. Its all new.

Hello Dr. Boster, I also heard a lot about probiotics related to gut bacteria improvement, which could possibly help with the MS. I am having a special joghurt for breakfast every morning. Have you heard of "Aktivia"? It is a probiotic joghurt and it helps me having less bloating and feeling better. The obstipation is still there, but the stool isn't as hard as it used to be, so it's easier to get rid of it!! Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for your learning about MS videos! sincerely Britta

Hi Dr 🙋♀️ I use probiotics when my system feels it needs it and always if I take antibiotics. Previously to forming this essential behaviour, I got thrush and really bad stomachs all the time, even infections becoming really high (gardnerella) and orally. I would take prescribed medication to treat and it would go away then return every time I was treated for infection with antibiotics. When I was pregnant 17yrs ago I got an upper urinary infection which took over a week to diagnose and I ended up really sick in hospital and it made my pregnancy a risk. I was put on long term antibiotics for my whole pregnancy (funny thing is my 16yr old son has never needed antibiotics in his life as a consequence) anyway I digress. Because of my longterm relationship with thrush it once again became an issue until a mum from another culture told me about the yoghurt and probiotics. I managed to treat the thrush using yoghurt, rather than constant medical pessaries, and consumed yoghurt and discovered refridgerated probiotics. I have never ever had thrush or gardnerella since and have been on quite a few courses of antibiotics. I always go straight to the pharmacy and supermarket when I am getting treated with antibiotics. I haven't tested them with the constipation (my muscles not working inside properly) as such. And still have to use suppositories to toilet like I have had to since the relapse that led to hospital and diagnosis in November 2018.

Hi Dr Boster, I'm Stacie from Maryland. Yes I have MS, diagnosed 2012. I first have had Crohn's Disease diagnosed about 1993, though sick with it since late Jr HS. When understanding my MS when I was a "newbie" I came upon research that said I had a higher chance at MS if I was female, had Epstein Barre Syndrome & also Inflammatory bowel disease. Bingo 3 for 3! Perhaps my immune system was already altered bad when MS came along, never knowing how long I had it, but looking back I see there were signs. Yes I take probiotics, eat yogurt daily. See, I've had 2 GI surgeries for Crohn's spanning the many yrs. I've also had septic pneumonia 4 times in 2017/2018 & a contracted Cdiff from all the antibiotics & 2nd Crohn's surgery as my good bacteria died along with some bad being on antibiotics. It took a fecal transplant in Feb 2018 & a picc line with home TPN & nursing for 7 months to get my deteriorated body, I had lost over 50lbs, to finally get on tract for me at least. Probiotics are in a daily supplement for me & 2 servings of yougurt, not the candied sugary kind, a day. I wholeheartedly feel there is a connection. My gutt has issues absorbing nutrients. I take 50,000iu of vitamin D a week per my neuro as my D level is very very low, the last check was a 12. No matter how much of it & other good things I eat, & having Crohn's I eat a very "clean" diet, my D along with other important nutrients are not being absorbed. So I pray probiotics do as I'm terrified of broad spectrum antibiotics & even ones for colds/flu etc will give me Cdiff again. Very good video subject & thank you very much! I'm what all my 6 doctors/specialist call one of those unique cases! 🤗✌🙏🤣😂🧡

Aloha Dr. Aaron, Thank you again for another interesting and informative video! Please keep us posted as more research becomes available. This is the first time I am hearing of this! I love learning something new! At this point, it sounds like there is much to be studied on this topic, and we really don't know if what we consider good for our GI tract is beneficial to our MS, or could it be the bad microbiome (if we know which is which) that works for our MS but disrupts the GI. Are these studies being held in the US? Do you have any links to studies? As for me, I try to keep my system moving with water, snacking on watermelon, and adding avocado whenever possible. Regarding being helpful for MS, obviously, if my system is backed up I feel like crap. Pun intended. Which throws everything including my brain into an MS fit.

I wonder sometimes about how I got ms and when I think back to my first chronic symptoms I was getting a lot of constipation in my late 20s and acid reflux out of no where, especially weird because I ate relatively healthy and it got worse and worse, I even remember thinking having stomach problems and have acidity in the body can lead to disease??. 2 years later my leg went numb and 6 months after that vertigo and bad vestibular problems. I’m on orcrevus now which has saved my life, a lot of people tell me I can just beat it with diet which makes me think about leaky gut and that it would be a good idea but the other part of me tells me that I would rather the scarier symptoms from medication then to take on more damage.

In answer to your question, no. I don’t take them. I remember talking to Dr English about them and other things like this. @maggiemae2585
6 жыл бұрын
Aaron Boster MD I started with 15 hours, then 16 hours , and last Saturday hit the 18 hour mark. I am trying to do it 6 days a week. I started IF after reading a book called Buddha's Diet and it recommends taking one day off a week. I have been working a lot and haven't been able to settle into a set eating window, but I'm thinking noon to 6 might be ideal. I've had a few extra long fasts this week because it was just easier to not eat dinner either! So far, I feel more calm ( ohmmmmmm) and more energy. If anyone thinks they can't do it, let me tell you that it's possible! Start small, even at 12 hours, and work up slowly. I use an app called Vora, which keeps stats for my fasts. It makes it fun and keeps me accountable.

If lymphocytes reside in the gut, does Lemtrada affect gut health?
@AaronBosterMD
6 жыл бұрын
I'm not aware of significant changes to the gut, good or bad, following lemtrada administration. Just quick point of clarification: The microbiome is a bunch of bacteria and other microbial colonies. The majority of the microbiome is located in the gut. Yes, we have lymphocytes in the gut (part of a system called MALT) but the majority of lymphocytes are in the lymph nodes and blood stream, not necessarily in the gut.
