I've been transitioning from using the GPS loaded planes to using VOR/ADF so this was definitely appreciated. Alaska and rural Canada seem to be loaded with NDB systems so they're a good "playground" for practice.

@Terribleguitarist89, glad you enjoyed the content, and thanks for watching! Alaksa is certainly a good place to get practice with NDB's. I haven't checked out rural Canada, but it seems like a good playground as well. Oddly enough, the state of Georgia still has quite a few NDBs, particularly around and south of the ATL area.

@@AlphaHotelFlightSimulation I'd actually recently noticed that about Georgia since I live near kvld and did some flying through the region. Another fun one I did was a Middle Siberia to Anchorage route purely via NDB'S in the classic DC-3. About 11 hours with 9 stops.

Thank you so much for this. You really helped with my Night Rating test today. Understanding NDBs a lot easier and the use of the Garmin equipment in different aircraft as I fly a few variants. Played around on MSFS2020 and this made me understand NDBs perfectly.

@DeanGrisillo, glad the content was helpful, and congrats on passing the night rating! I think you'll find that cultivating skills in using NDB's and bearing pointers will make using other navigation systems much easier, and give you superior situational awareness with whatever navigation system you are using. Thanks for watching!

Very nice but instead of superimposing the ADF needle on the HDG using your imagination, why don’t you just rotate the NDB compass card to match your HDG indicator and then just read the intercept heading directly off the NDB ?

You can certainly do it that way, (that's why they built them with movable compass cards,) but you'll need to move the compass card every time you change your heading. I find that a little tedious, and find mentally superimposing the needle over the Heading indicator a little easier (or at least a little less tedious.) But do whatever works best for you! Thanks for watching!

Good point. If you're old old school though, you won't even know what that new fangled knob is for so your procedure is Wiley Post style!
