The first knife from the collaboration between me and Matt Sicard is now available!
The blade
The first knife from our collaboration that we are offering is a 195mm Santoku in w2 steel. To own a honyaki blade from Matt with the same geometry, it's simply pure pleasure. I still marvel at cutting carrots and smile every time I use mine. It is a very thin profile which provides great cutting precision in addition to penetrating denser foods without difficulty. Witt a HRC around 65, you will have in your hands a blade that will offer awesome performance.
The visual
This is honestly the most perfect and finest polish I can offer and I'm really proud of what I show you today. There are no visible scratches or lines on the blade and the mirror is sublime. I managed to keep the pearlite white and there are magnificent iridescent reflections. Choil and spine have been polish and rounded too. Several hours were necessary to achieve this result and for the pleasure of the eyes, I am more than satisfied.
The handle
I wanted a classic and elegant handle that would showcase Matt's work without stealing the show. The combination of pheasant wood and the end cap in African Blackwood with brass is perfect. I simply love the wood grain which looks like old leather. In hand, the rokkaku hanmaru shape is the perfect blend of control and comfort.
The backstory
Me and Matt decided to collaborate together to offer very unique knives with an attention to detail and finish. Being both passionate about Honyaki blades, this collaboration highlights all of Matt's his in-depth knowledge of steel and blacksmithing. Being both Canadian, I am really proud to be able to actively participate in showcasing local talent.
For my part, my goal is to push Matt's creations to the maximum in order to reveal all the beauty that a honyaki blade can offer. I'm also the one who takes care of creating a custom handle and doing the final sharpening.
