Sweet! Had a gnarly injury that lead to full strength loss and major sciatica, but I’m really close to being fully recovered, but I think this muscle is responsible for my remaining weakness and slight limp when I walk. Have you ever encountered anyone with weakness in this kid me that has led to muscle cramps/slight pain in the front of their knee? When I’m sitting at 90 degrees and do a calf raise, I can feel a cramp start in the soft space between my patella tendon and the outside of my knee.

I underwent minimally invasive surgery on my right knee a while ago. Of course, this resulted in crutches for about 2 weeks. During those two weeks, I’d put majority of my weight on my left leg. Fast forward to today, my left calf is visibly larger compared to my right. More importantly.. the pain is absolutely horrible! Especially when I’m trying to exercise. Do you think a medical professional would be able to help me out?

Hey Becky, I tore my calf a month ago. After rejoining activities such as running and jumping I feel like my plantaris is starting to hurt. It feels nothing like the tear I had with the calf. I only feel pain when I plantarflex with the knee straight. It doesn’t hurt when the knee is bend. Any help ? I also think it’s more of an inflammation . Thank you

Thank you for the question Alexander. unfortunately I'm unable to provide any medical advice because that is beyond my scope of practice, so I would suggest that you would seek advice from a medical professional which can examine exactly where the pain's coming from and provide you with any treatment that they see fit for your particular situation. Sorry I couldn't be of any more assistance

GREAT VIDEO!!!! very concise and informative. I'd been struggling with some nagging 'achilles issues' this past soccer season, when during the last in-season match i strained what now appears to be this PLANTARIS muscle (right at the origin point). Seems that since the achilles pain was along the medial side (at the insertion point) and I later strained at the origin point, that the Plantaris was the underlying issue. It's been about 10 weeks, and I'm walking just fine and theres no heavy pain, but I can still feel how taut and tender it is where the original strain took place. My fear is that it will rupture or tear when i start sprinting again. Currently doing exercises to build up that achilles tendon strength, but any ideas on a protocol to fix/correct this issue and protect myself moving forward?

@@SMM95 Hmmmm. Honestly I don't know.. Once it started improving it just started fading away and then I forgot about it.Things started improving when I started working on tibial internal rotation. FRC's KNEE CARS were helpful. Also I would work quite a bit on TIB IR (turning heel away) at the end (most contracted & flexed) position of a hamstring curl. For example, I would lay on a bench stomach down, and do a single leg ham curl with a strap, but really mostly just staying in that shortest range and basically isometrically squeezing for a a few seconds with the TIB in IR. Maybe once the bones started getting more eat home in that position the tension on the plantaris reduced. It will still flare up from time to time a little, but thats usually how I fix it as well..then its gone in no time. maybe a few sessions, so less than a week if i catch it early.

Great information and very clear and concise. What muscle(s) allow you to stand on your toes? I torn my achilles( the pop sounded and felt like an elastic band ) since then- i cannot raise on my toe and walking long distances is painful and walk with a limp- trying to narrow it down- any suggestions on exercises would help

I had a severe low back injury that resulted in severe nerve pain and sciatica and it lead to a half dead right leg. My symptoms were (some still lingering) very similar to yours. Did some PT to relieve some of the debilitating nerve pain and then went down a rabbit hole of self PT. Foot and toe yoga/strengthening/mobility exercises, lots of stretching (whole leg), plantar fascia rolling with a tennis ball, and lots of self massage. It took me 2 years, but i’m now back to about 85% normal and still improving. I started out in life altering pain and full strength loss/dead leg to where I’m at now.
