It's so sad when religious people say that that you can't be a good person without Religion.Because that is obviously not true. Humans build relationships, trust etc because we do it for our own wellbeing. If you ask a mother that why do you take care of your child she is going to give you an answer that because he or she is my child not because god forced her. It is kind of like saying that that I don't want to be a good person, the reason why I am a good person is because God is watching and I don't want to go to Hell but if it was up to me I would do the exact opposite of being a good person and becoming a savage. Humans make friendships based on their social wellbeing. If you ask most people even some believers that why do you build trusting relationships is because it helps their wellbeing not because god forced them to do it. Evolution is just an explanation based on evidences that we have today, and at least most people do not look to evolution entirely for morality, It's just an explanation of how life emerged or evolved. Our morality should be based on the maximization of human wellbeing and the minimization of human suffering. Our morality should also be based upon loyalty , honesty , and trust in relationships as research shows that people have a greater sense of social, emotional, physical wellbeing when they are in trustworthy relationships. The things that should be considered immoral are anything that cause emotional suffering and suffering otherwise such as murder, genocide, greed, betrayal etc. Humanism is also a good point of view for morality. There are a lot of religious societies that have a high violent crime rate, and barbaric practices and there are some nonreligious countries that have one of the lowest crime rates, better social order etc. The only problem I have with western morality is that it seems to encourage excessive individualism which sort of indirectly encourages excessive selfishness, lack of loyalty, betrayal, etc. But remember I am only against excessive individualism not individualism itself because a society without a certain extent of individualism is an oppressive society. I believe we should have a balanced morality that contributes to the social, physical, and emotional wellbeing.

“The reason species have progressed is basically survival of the fittest” - not quite. The view that evolution by natural selection creates some sort of linear “progress” (with new species being an improvement to their ancestors) is not quite accurate. The environment changes and allele frequencies change as a result. From an evolutionary perspective an ape isn’t superior to an inch-worm. Both are organisms that are evolved from ancestors who adapted to their particular environment. And both thrive successfully to pass on their genes in their environmental niche.

@@MustAfaalik my issue isn’t with the “survival of the fittest” it’s with the word “progress”. So a noxious, foreign species is introduced, the environment changes and the frequency of alleles in both the introduced species and native species changes through natural selection (ie survival of the fittest, or rather survival of the best adapted) due to the change in selective pressure. Everything about the impact of and on cane toads is consistent with what I posted. The fact still stands that the process of evolution from, say amphibians, to mammals isn’t properly characterized as “progress” or even “improvement”. Horses aren’t better or more evolved than frogs. Both are perfectly adapted to their niche, and, if new selective pressures are brought to bear on them, they will continue to adapt.

@@antoniorocha3967 I agree. As per my last two posts my problem with the Muslim lady’s description is NOT the phrase “survival of the fittest”, which I used myself and is well established, but the word “progress” and the common misapprehension among religious creationists that evolution is a linear process of improvement whereby humans, for example, are an objective “improvement” upon our ape ancestors, or extant apes. We are adapted to our environment and they were adapted to theirs, and an oyster is adapted to its niche - evolution has no preference for more complex or intelligent life forms. I am an evolved being. During the evolution process, human morality, loosely, was developed as it presented an evolutionary benefit. What we consider moral is the loose grouping of behaviour and attitudes we evolved to favor. Of course the loose evolved moralities of humanity are codified in religion, they pre-existed religion. I do not require a book to tell me how to breath, it is my natural state to know how to breath. I can hold my breath or hyperventilate if I choose. The same holds true that I can make choices that do not fall in line with morality. Adding to the mix, the spectrum with which people are motivated by their inbuilt morality, adds significantly to the complexity of actions we see taken by humans. I don't know why I'm carrying on in a KZitem comment. I guess I'm thrilled to be a atheist. I'm thrilled a faith is never going to restrict who I can love, care for, help, or any kind thing. I'll stop now. Probably just me here anyway 😁.

I like your channel a lot, and I agree with a lot of your beliefs although for me my morals are based on suffering not what is best for the human species. I think some things that are best for our species thriving may cause unnecessary suffering.. and I think what matters is the suffering of people who currently exist - not what may advance our survival as a species. But I may be misunderstanding you. I will admit I am not as educated as you are. All I have is a GED. I would like that to change but unfortunately I do not have the resources or ability to do so right now, so I am trying my best to educate myself. Also side note I really like how you said animals are our cousins and do not exist for us to eat!! That's so cool. I'd love to see you talk more about your views on animal rights & animal suffering. Also I totally understand that you as a former Muslim would focus more on commentary of Muslim people, but I'd love to see you do commentary on Christianity and such as well. As Christianity has breed a lot of toxic beliefs and mindsets. I follow agnostic / atheist / religion critical channels of all kinds - and I get kind of confused when I see a lot of former Muslim channels (that are Atheists) seem to defend Christianity. Not saying that you do this ! - and also not saying that Christians are all bad people just as I wouldn't say that about any religion. I myself don't define myself as any religion but am not an atheist. Anyway I hope you are having a good day and much love to you and thank you for your channel. It's great to be able to access such discussion on ethics, religion, etc for free so easily.

Nah, on the charity part you are wrong. Christian charity is the biggest in the world, all churches do charity in one way or another. But you are right in that some of them do it in regards on trying to convert people.

Altruism can be overdone - I remember reading a book about every day life in the Papal states during the eighteenth century(part of an everyday life series of books.)The Papal states in central Italy was a theocracy ruled both spiritually and politically by the Pope. There was such an over emphasis on helping the poor and needy in this area -inspired by Christian charity and performed by thousands of convents and monasteries that catered to every need of the poor -food,housing and medical requirements etc that the economy suffered as a result -there was no need to go to commercial establishments because you could get everything free from church charities. This state of affairs lasted until the mid Nineteenth century in Italy when forces from the north overthrew the papal government and established the modern secular country of Italy with the pope relegated to a tiny area at the Vatican.

You are so right about misguided charity and I call it Pathological Altruism, the drive to help the other to your own detriment. You see it every day about people putting themselves in dangerous situations risking their own lives in the guise of altruism. People like this, derive their self worth through the pathological drive to fulfill every else's need.

Mohaaaamad did it 1440 years ago

So true.... as an Atheist I frequently donate to charities, for animals and humans both. Because I am human being, I have feelings, I am kind and I have a good heart. Not because I am supposed to do it in the name of religion to get benefits in afterlife (as Islam requires Muslims to do).

When one person has delusions we call it insanity, but when a lot of people have delusions we call it religion. Adults who believe in imaginary beings are stupid. THE ONLY TRUE GOD IS THE ONE WHO SHOWS HIM SELF TO EVERYONE. NOT FAITH BUT FACTS. Good people do Good things, bad people do bad things, but religion can make good people do bad things.

Keep refuting these ignorant people. It's true, there are bad and good atheists. At least with atheists, they are not ordered to be bad people. In my opinion, good Muslims are not following the Quran or Muhammad's teachings.... this woman only needs to be educated and if she has a good decent heart, she will leave Islam.

I would recommend Tom Holland's book Dominion on how sooo much of what the west considers good and the whole way the west thinks is largely the fruit of Christian and especially Christian Evangelical struggle to follow conscience regarding faith rather than having to obey the Roman Catholic Church or the Lord of the manor, or the leadership and values of Islam.
