Great Video! One important thing. As someone who lived in Arizona for several years (plenty of scorpions and venomous snakes, including rattle snakes), all these bite kits DO NOT WORK, they are a scam. If you are bitten by a venomous snake, the only thing you can do is go to the nearest hospital to get the antivenom. If you want to help, use a pen or sharpie to circle the bite and make a note of the time of when you were bitten. This will help hospital staff identify how quickly or slowly your body is reacting to the venom. But DO NOT rely on one of these kits, it is 100% BS. Hope it helps. Safe travels! Keep the videos coming!
@JonGadget

Thanks for the feedback - it does generate a lot of suction so you would like to think it would do something (surely better than trying to suck the venom out movie style!) and it would make sense for a bee sting (need to keep the sting in place when using apparently) and my mate uses it all the time for mosquito bites - but yes, irrespective your advice sounds good to me.
@sng2225
Жыл бұрын
I've added a comment above. Suction on a snake bite is not recommended. Compression bandages and identification as well as staying calm to slow toxin spread is the advice given in Australia until you can get the right anti-venom.
@GeekfromYorkshire

@@JonGadget Suction stimulates the innate immune system of an inflammatory response. That response INCREASES BLOOD FLOW to the area so accelerates the transmission of whatever is there to the rest of the body. To reduce flow into bloodstream you need to suppress the imflammation so ice, compression, etc.

@@JonGadget I can't speak about mosquito bites, but pretty much every Park Ranger, Nurse, Doctor, etc. in Arizona will tell you that all these "bite kits" do not work for snakes. In the case of scorpions, most scorpions are not deadly to a grown healthy human with no pre-existing health conditions. Arizona has the highest scorpion concentration in the USA, and I believe it's within the Top 5 places with the largest number of species, so more than half the people at my office had been bitten at least one time by a scorpion, it was like the most normal thing in the world, jajajajaja. Fun fact if you hit adult scorpions with a black light they glow, it is super cool.

Glad that it was a great trip and thanks for the update regarding the performance of the chosen gear. But regarding the shown "suck out venom" device: I do not know if it will lower the itching from mosquito bites, but I am pretty sure, that will have no effect to the venom of snakes and scorpions. Please make yourself a picture, but in my opinion you can save yourself the space

@@JonGadget I suspect you know better than most that “claims” are just that 🙂 DEET and hydrocortisone are the winners for mosquitoes, and you should get to a bloody hospital (or carry actual antivenom) for anything serious.

Firstly - CONGRATULATIONS on flying past the 100k subs. Brilliant! loved the video - especially the travelogue at the start. Your pre- and post-trip videos work really well together - are you planning some more of these? I am a big fan of Revolut and use it when travelling myself. I have seen a lot of positive comments about merino wool garments and I want to move on from using them as base layers. Unbound are a little pricey - so I will look for some good quality alternatives.

I wear Kathmandu merino t-shirts daily. Get them on sale (never shop at Kathmandu if there’s not a sale). They do have nylon in them as well, but I can confirm they last years of frequent wear. They eventually pick up smell, but certainly not after one day of wear. I stopped keeping track; I just do the smell test each day and wash as needed. Wearing one right now in fact!

Thank you, it was very usefull info. But I think you missed one super important thing. When you go to the płace near equator you should wear a boonie hat with wide brim or neck flat not a baseball hat. They are usually mor foldable. I lost 10 days of my honeymoon because of sunburn of my neck and ears. The second thing is the advice that never ever use back, tight, suit pockets or neck carry begs, or especially chest, belt or similar begs in tourist places. There are a lot of pocket thieves in tourist places. Better are jeans like pockets, but even better are fabric belts full of pockets under a shirt (very popular in Asia) which are not visible not visible and thus not easy to cut in artificial crowd. The boots, I started to wear military like boots because I regularly twisted my right angle. And I saw that car tire like soles protects me from high temperature of cement or similar (or cold). The leather is breathable and once saved me from snake bite. Your shoes are good for stony beach where they protects you from sharp stones and animals. The socks. Look at very professional sportsmen. They always wear socks (often low cut). There is reason for this.

Hi, I enjoy watching your videos; I find them informative and entertaining. However, I find the promotion of the aspvenin problematic. A brief research leads me to conflicting and ambiguous statements regarding its effectiveness. It's questionable to endorse something without knowing if and to what extent it truly helps. Additionally, it creates a false sense of security, potentially causing people to react differently than they otherwise would have. As I mentioned, I appreciate your likable and informative content, but perhaps it's worth questioning whether one wants to promote everything that is offered... It's a pity.
@JonGadget

Thanks for the feedback. To be fair it wasn't offered but recommended by my friend who has been using it to good effect on mosquito bites for about 15 years aa he explained. It's not on the final video but my friend also had used it to great effect on 2 cases of bee stings. As for impact on spider/scorpion/snake bites - this is the makers claim and I'm sure it has some merit or it would not have been on sale for so long - but there is no substitute for professional medical help in the event of a life threatening bite.

Believe me, the Aspivenin does nothing for us unlucky so and so's that mozzies find delicious, and also have a body that doesn't take too kindly to their sanguisuge attentions! Maybe it works for bigger bichos, but mozzies,for me at least, nada.

if you're gonna wear socks but don't like the look, get ankle socks or low cut. people think it may look girly but many people don't see the socks so it doesn't matter.

Am I the only one who gets reamed out by airport security (London and in Dublin) for not putting their lip balm, bar soap, and deodorant in their liquids bag? They tore my carry on apart over those three things.
