Daily warm-up is the basis for efficient trumpet practice!
In this video I show you which exercises I do every day, why and how long they take.
I like to start with the activation of the breathing apparatus. My exercise for this goes like this: I set my metronome to 72 beats per minute, which is my warm-up speed. I breathe in 4 beats and breathe in 4 beats. As I exhale, I blow the air over the back of my hand to feel the air and focus the airflow.
My second exercise is about the lip buzz. Here I breathe in again for four beats and let my lips hum for an indefinite period of time. It's not about buzzing for as long as possible, it's about the pure lip function. No specific pitch, no specific length. Always feel inside yourself and determine whether there are points of tension or tension. If you notice this, you can relax yourself by doing exercises such as blowing air through the mouthpipe.
I start the next exercise on the mouthpiece. Regardless of whether it's Buzz-R or just a mouthpiece, it's about long tones without a specific pitch or fixed pitch. Let the air flow, that's the focus.
In the next step we move and in semitone steps and buzz on our mouthpiece a semitone lower and back to our starting tone.
We go to the trumpet. In the first step we keep a comfortable starting tone, in the video a g1. Feel back inside whether everything is in order. In a further step we move and play chromatically around the g1 notes.
Triads are the next step in my warm-up. Here you can vary and play triads which you are familiar with and which are easy to do.
In the next step, which is the smooth transition to practicing, I use technical passages from concert or etude literature. If you have pieces and parts of these that challenge you a lot, learn them by heart and incorporate them into your daily warm-up. You will notice that you can master these passages more easily in the literature game.
I hope I was able to help you with my thoughts as well as exercises, tips and tricks on this important trumpet topic / video. To a good cooperation and always remember: Stay tuned is the motto!
See you soon and Ciao !!! Your Nico
