Great! Do you have to pursue a PhD to get this dual licensure? I think you are going to be an amazing psychologist!

Hi Juliana. Thank you very much. I appreciate that. 😎. Yes. For the licensed psychologist license, I have to have a doctorate degree. If I were just doing school psychology I'd just need to have a masters or specialist degree. Thank you again and please let me know what other questions you may have.

Thanks for your reply! I'm considering going for an MFT degree. I was also considering an MSW, but I really want to focus on therapy, not social work, so I'm leaning more towards the MFT. I also looked at the MHC degree but heard there are more job openings for the MFT and MSW. What are your thoughts on these masters degrees as far as employment prospects? Thank you!

Hi Juliana. That sounds great. MFTs, counselors and social workers often compete for some of the same jobs. I have seen many jobs listings that will say counselor and then say...you must be an MFT, LPC, or LCSW. I do however, see more job openings for LCSWs. They seem to work more places. They hire a lot of social workers in hospitals and clinics. You may see some MFTs and LPCs but, not too often. I would say that there are more LCSW jobs than MFT and LPCs but, there are still many jobs out there for the latter two. I think it is just competitive.

@@aquamarine0023 He is spot on with his reply. I would definitely go the MSW route. They are seen as more versatile. They have way more job opportunities available. They all do about the same thing, i heard it's the courses that they took that makes the difference. My wife is applying to the MSW program this week. She is leaving nursing to become a clinical social worker. She wants to provide therapy. Good luck. You will find a job no matter which route you take.

@@shannonbaker273 thank you for adding to this discussion Shannon. I appreciate it. Really good points and also, I have seen that many doctorate of psychology programs accept graduated of msw programs, if someone finds that they'd like to get into psychology.

Hello. Thanks, for your weekly content, its has been very helpful. Im thinking about continuing my education to become a Bcba, but I have a couple of questions. 1. As a Bcba can I work from home and make my own hours? 2. What is the minium pay for a Bcba with no experience? 3. Where can I work as a Bcba besides a school or clinic? 4. Lastly, I have school debt and I'm wondering if its worth pursuing a Bcba masters by taking out loans?

Hi Queen Lave. Really good questions. Thank you for watching and reaching out. I'm glad the vids have been helpful. Many BCBAs work in private practice so there may be opportunities to work from home. I think especially in these times, many BCBAs, counselors, therapists, etc., have done most of their services via technology. BCBAs are typically salaried at 50k and up ..with or without experience. They make pretty well. Other than schools or clinics, BCBAs may work in private practice, universities, or other organizations. If you want to pursue your masters degree, I would see if there are research assistant/teaching assistant position open as well as scholarships available. Many RA/TA positions will provide a stipend and full or partial tuition waiver. I hope this was helpful. Please let me know what other questions you may have.

Thanks for your fast reply. Lol. I've never hard or a research assistant. Where do you recommend me to look for the position? Are you referring to teaching assistant in public etc? The reason why I asked about working from home is because I'm a mom and I want to be present in my children's life. So, I'm looking for something pretty flexible

I’m 3 courses away from completing my MS in Psychology in Applied Behavior Analysis and I’m interested in this route as well. How would I be able to pivot to this after my program ends in January? I won’t have enough supervision hours to be bcba and this gray area between RBT and BCBA doesn’t have a lot of potential for great pay..
@Joelschoolpsy

Hi Ciani. Thank you for watching. As long as you have all the coursework needed for certification, you can get a supervisor that can help you complete all the hours necessary for certification. If you currently have a supervisor then you can ask them to continue with you on getting hours or if they know anyone who could supervise you independently. Please let me know what other questions you may have.

Hi so you are in a dual program to become a school and licensed psychologist? How long will the program take and what college do you attend?
@Joelschoolpsy
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Alima. Sorry for the late reply. I am in a PhD program in educational psychology. Right before my internship started, my supervisor asked me if I were interested in getting my LP. Myself and another intern were interested so instead of a school psychology internship, they turned it into a pre-doctoral internship which we needed to complete 1750 hours. The internship lasted about 10.5 month. I just finished my internship last week and I will need to do a post-doctoral internship once I graduate. My total program is taking about 3 1/2 years to finish. Usually counseling and clinical psychology programs are about 4 to 5 years, including a 1 year internship. Please let me know what other questions you may have. :)

So my program offers LSSP/LPA Is that the license you received in your program? Does the LPA allow you to counsel or practice independently???
@Joelschoolpsy
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Angelie, I'll probably be eligible for the LPA upon finishing however I don't think I'll pursue it. I think I'll see a post doctoral internship to get my remaining 1750 hours for the LP. I think LPAs must work under an LP. I'm not sure if they can practice independently. Good question. I'll have to check the licensing board haha. Please let me know if you have any questions.

@@Joelschoolpsy What is LPCC and MFT? I had looked into mental health but the starting salary is low unfortunately. I have a BS in Sociology/Psychology. I am currently a sub teacher. I am looking to get my masters in special education or reading as the amount of children I have worked with do not know how to read sadly. The need of special education teachers are high from what I have seen. I am often a sub in special need classes. I would like to be an SETSS which is a travelling teacher.

@@Alimaway Hi Alima, LPCC is Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and MFT is marriage and family therapist. I agree, the salary tends to be low for all counselors and therapist. Psychologist, I don't believe get compensated well either for the education they obtain. I think a travelling teacher sounds great. There are several careers in education as well that many people get into when they want a career switch from teaching. There are educational diagnosticians which do IQ testing for students, there are school psychologists and school counselors as well. Keep working hard.
