In this video, I'll explain my experience as a yard truck driver and why, as a Class A CDL holder, I wouldn't recommend it at any point in your career. The main points I'll cover:
1) Yard truck drivers are reckless drivers. They run stop signs, the ignore speed limits. The speed limit is 15 mph, but they woosh past you at 40 mph. They try to sneak past you while you back up. It's only a matter of time until one of them causes an accident and you don't wanna be anywhere near them when it happens. You don't wanna be caught up in it.
2) BUY A DASH CAM BEFORE SETTING FOOT IN THAT CAB. I was being accused of running stop signs, speeding, nearly hitting the same driver twice and hitting trailers ever since I started working there. They WILL take the side of the accuser. They'll believe them over you because they worked there longer. Buy a dash cam so you can prove you didn't do the things you were accused of. Also, photograph each trailer before hooking up to it, before dropping it off and after dropping it off. Photograph the adjacent trailers too, so when they try to accuse you of damaging a trailer or hitting an adjacent trailer, you have proof you didn't do that.
3) Take some extra sweaters with you because all it takes is a few false accusations against you to get you kicked off the truck and be forced to work in a warehouse.
4) If anyone tells you you can't photograph the trailers, tell 'em to go #### themselves.
