I recently got a brassavolla in my collection, but she's still quite a ways away from blooming. I got her because they advertised her as fragrant and I really love fragrant orchids. Thank you for always bringing the less popular orchids under the spotlight~❤

I agree! I have just one, BC Sun Mei Gold, but she puts out flower stems one after the other. The foliage looks like a bad hair day, but I am definitely on the lookout for more brassavola hybrids!

I fell in love with Richard Mueller hybrids. They seem to grow very vigorously and they bloom more often

Dear miss brassavola princess 👸 I'm so happy to watch this video today, As I'm giving out a talk about brassavola and it's hybrids In our national orchid society on Friday next week . July 2024. Seems like we share love for the same genera My favorites are brassavolas Since I started running an exel spreadsheet following blooms, I can tell you that The brassavola (Encyvola) Jairak Finch is blooming regularly twice a year. Each December and each July August. The bush needs splitting or re-potting to encourage more growth , yet super easy to grow. It is a SUPER reliable grex/cultivar/ hybrid in the warm greenhouse. My amethyst hybrids are spindly and still lagging, ... maybe need even more light ❓ more temperature control ❓ i down know . If I may add I'm also growing brassavola cordata. Strong grower. Brassavola nodosa "Susan Fuchs" beautiful!. Brassavola Jimnie cricket Brassavola flagelaris Brassavola cuculta always more difficult than others. Please feel free to contact me Mishmish. From the other side of the world 🌎

Hi Danny! I've recently purchase a discounted mounted brassavola nodosa because it looked desiccated. The problem is, she never made new leaves so I repotted it in wood chips. But it's been two months now and still no new leaves. I keep the humidity between 50% and 60% in my house and she's in a well lighted area, with my dendrobiums. Should I have kept it mounted on bark or is it better potted? I hope I'll save it!

Cattleyas, dendrobiums, zygopetalum, retrocalla, hoyas, pointer cheetahs, walkerianas, gardenias - They will all bloom and rebloom for me. A storebought Miltoniopsis grew 15 miniature "pups" and they bloom and rebloom. My Brassavola Maikai is over 7 years old and huge ( refuses to bloom ) Brassavola gardineri is over 3 years old and bigger than Maikai ( refuses to bloom ) Bought a Brassavola Green Bird, it died, bought a bigger BC Green Bird in spike- it died. Phals will die on me too. Southern Oregon climate is so strange for orchids !!

Don't get discouraged, maybe a humidifier would help? I have to admit I do not know Southern Oregon's climate. Is it very dry? I live in Netherlands and here is it humid and temperate, with not so much bright light. In the summer I put orchids outside, to get the most of the light. Some Brassavola hybrids do bloom, Cattleyas are more of a challenge here.

Great choices, love those hybrids. I really love the b.nodosa x c.purpurata and b.cuculata x c.purpurata! I have the b.amathyst but never has bloomed for me! What do you suggest to do to bloom it?

So I bought what I thought was a brassavolla cucullata, it bloomed, soft yellow edges… very proud- well I brought it to my orchid association and to my surprise- it wasn’t a cucullata as the label suggested. It was a brassavola appendiculata - Also a species. The snippet you showed of your cucullata, LOOKS EXACTLY like mine. Further research from the AOS, apparently there was a massive mislabeling that occurred and they even wrote a memo/article? Addressing it. 🤷🏻♂️in search of the cucullata for now, but super happy about the appendiculata

Is this true: ” Orchids should not be fertilized with ordinary fertilizers which often contain dangerously high levels of ammonium which can be toxic to orchids. Ammonium easily accumulates in the compost in which the plant grows as it cannot break down these substances.” ?

Amazing collection! 🤩 I've got the Jairak Finch. It came mounted on this plastik and I kept her there, she's hanging in a long pot , where I mist here once a day. When it gets hot I let her soak water for some minutes. She blooms once a year on 3 new growths. Seems to be easy to grow, does not like to stay wet too long, and mine has a lot of anticyan...😅 (these purple "sunspots"). Allthough she only gets lightly shaded sun in the morning. So maybe she is not that suntolerant as some cattleyas are?

Brassocattleya and brassoleilocattleya are my faves! The floofy lip, the star shaped petals, the color changers and checking if fragrance is day or not keep me so entertained with these hybrids. I love the summer blooming phals but the brassavola hybrids are my most favorite!

Is there a reason why there is only one "lip" on them? Is that where they are pollinated, or do they pollinate the entire flower? I just find the look of the flower unique and interesting 🌾
@nikolaybondarev7407
Жыл бұрын
.....what do you mean pollinate the entire flower? Pollination generally occurs in one spot per flower
